jimmack (1212), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Jan 6, 2006 12oz. bottle thanks to Crosling. Crystal clear, light copper color with a small off white head. Mild toasted malt aroma with just a hint of peat smoke. Lightly sweet biscuit malt flavor with hints of toffee and peat that ends with a fair amount of bitterness. Ernest (4229), Boulder, Colorado, USA Sep 7, 2005 Draught.
Head is light brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is light amber.
Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread, cookie, caramel), with a hint of smoke.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
Another nice, if typical, malty lager from FCB. I can’t say that the Macallan malt contributed a lot to its character, but overall it’s a very pleasant, balanced, clean brew. Beaver (475), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Sep 4, 2005 Poured from a growler. Pours a dark golden amber with a big and frothy off white head that retains well and leaves some lacing.
The aroma is smoky peat and sweet caramel.
The flavor is more of the same...sweet caramel followed by a smoky bitterness. The mouthfeel is smooth and velvety but a little watery.
Overall, it was a decent beer. It had good scotch qualities. It was more bitter than I was expecting.
Crosling (1645), Loveland, Colorado, USA Sep 3, 2005 1/2 Gallon growler, thanks to Brian. Dark copper color. Dulled malt aroma, lightly toasty, with a hint of scotch. Flavor is light in body, with a biscuity/toasted malt flavor, along with a light hint of scotch. I find it very one dimensional and boring. Murphy (1759), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Sep 3, 2005 Pours dark golden with a nice full head. Aroma is alcholic, malty, and mossy. Flavor is toasted, buttery, "scotchy" as promised. Great malt backbone on this one, very buttery and full, almost oily. Yum!
