Flavor is roasted nuts with coffee and a hop bite. A unique aspect is that both the malt and the hops are of the strong variety but balance each other very well. Balance is key with this kind of beer and consistency can be elusive. I found this beer to be unique, interesting, flavorful, and enjoyable. Erdinger2003 (127), Ames, Iowa, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 23, 2007 I got this from HyVee W and S in Cedar Falls and I was very surprised to see it was retired. It makes me wish I would’ve rated the Sam Adams triplebock.
Appears to be very dark in ruby color with a little head and a lacing that sticks very well.
I smell a nutty coffeeness, but not much of it.
Taste is dark coffee malts with a very slight dark fruit in the nose.
Mouthfeel is pretty nice, like a slightly creamy water.
I was glad to try it, but if it was fresh that would’ve been nice too. MikeF (528), Cleveland, Ohio, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 21, 2007 12 ounce bottle. Dark red, working on brown. Off white head. Smells like a can of fresh peanuts. Same sort of nutty flavor with a touch of toffee and roast. Hops a earthy. Plenty bitter. Medium body. High carbonation. Roasted dry finish. Not a bad little beer. bigrond (1053), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 1/20 | Dec 16, 2007 aroma is nil. Color is deep dark reddish brown. flavor is slighty sweet. nutty and a little caramel. Very good. Finishes easy and dark. A smooth drinking beer. Fort Collins is an impressive brewery. I think I have three others in the fridge to try tonight. mribm (419), Hurley, New York, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 14, 2007 This copper colored ale poured with a long lasting head and had a slight maltiness and a sourness to it. I didn’t particularly like this beer and I don’t think I would buy it again. Very one dimensional, bland and a sour after taste. Reminds me of the Magic Hat beers which I also am not fond of. biznizness (948), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA

That is all. narticus (6), USA does not count | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 9, 2007 12 oz. from Riverside. Nice brick color, though the thin head disappeared rapidly, more like a brown ale than a red/amber. Much darker in the malts than I would have expected from the style, with a little chocolate bitterness (with the hops adding to the bittersweetness of the chocolate). The finish is way too sweet, with an earthy sweetness like molasses or caramelized veggies. I’ve had far, far worse, but I’ve also had much better.
