12oz. Toasty, nutty and lightly sweet dark caramel malt aroma, with touches of citric hop, brown sugar and musty flowers. Mostly clear deep red color with a lasting, thin, ivory head. Flavor is sweet and fruity to start, some mild esters combining with shades of earthy bitterness and pine, drying out to a large degree before the end. Some orange peel citrus and peppery hop in the finish, along with some lingering cocoa very late. Palate is gently acidic and smooth with a moderately high degree of effervescence and a medium body. Pretty drinkable, it’s good that the hops have a fairly active role.

Pours ruby brown. Aroma roasts and nuts. Taste was malt, some roast, nutty, a little dusty on the finish. Piney hops. Quaffable, nothing spectacular.

12 oz bottle purchased at Frugal MacDoogal’s in Nashville. Poured a clear ruby color with two fingers of head. The aroma was caramel and nuts primarily, but some ripe fruits at the end. Medium body with average carbonation. Flavor was nutty with some piney hops. This beer was better than I had hoped.

12 oz. bottle via Lubiere, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. July 2008

App.: Clear ruby amber, fair off-white foam. Aroma: Some nice caramel and nuts, decent earthy, slightly piney, leafy hops, an odd peppery-leafy-vegetal note, musty, a bit tangy-fruity. Palate: Medium-ish body, sparse carbonation. Flav.: Musty, dusty, earthy hops, only a touch of malt, some nuts, something of an odd funky note; dry with some bitterness, a touch of nuttiness to finish.

Has a very British character which doesn’t do much for me.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber with a small lasting head. Aroma is distinctly of roasted barley. Flavor is moderately bitter, slightly salty. More roasted barley in the aftertaste. This is not a bad beer. It was fermented well, but it doesn’t really fit into a style category for me. It is amber in color, but ambers, IMO should be colored with caramel malts and not roasted barley. In other words, this is a watered down stout.

Pours brown into a shaker. Tan head with minimal retention recedes to skim surface. Caramel aromas. NIce full malt with a slight hop finish.
