Nice nutty caramel malt in aroma, with light restrained British hops. In mouth, a nice nutty malt with herbal notes, nice light hopping, very quaffable, even more than a year in the cellar. Bottle from mix 12-pack, Halftime, summer 2008.

Not much in the way of hops, but there is a sweetness in the aroma that’s a bit like caramel, toffee and dried cherries. Nicely malty flavor is not too sweet. Easy drinking, but forgettable. andrewpbennett (5), El Salvador does not count | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 2, 2010 Purchased in Banner Elk, NC at a new Wine/Beer shop. Out of the bottle has a nice pour. Amber and a little hazy with not much head. Medium-Body with a caramel malty flavor. God beer. Ibrew2or3 (2843), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA

The first sense of the aroma brings about a flash of English barleywine notes followed by a moment of chewy malts mixing with prunes, grapes and then heading toward a touch of roasty and crystal malts. The taste begins with malts, crystal malt sweetness, a touch of pine hops and a slight toffee note. It evens out and thins out toward the finish with a modest up welling of dark fruitiness. It tastes like a little barleywine. hotstuff (3183), Indiana, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 27, 2009 Bottle purchased at Total Wine & More (Ft. Myers, FL) - Medium sized beige fizzy, frothy head that mostly diminished, fair amount of lacing, transparent, carbonation observed, and a copper hue. The aroma is very malty, chocolate and subtle hops. The flavor is malty, chocolate and a semi-dry finish. The mouthfeel is smooth and thin. This is a medium bodied beer. Very easy to drink due to the texture being thin. Malt dominates the aroma and flavor with very little hops being noticed. A beer that could be a session beer for those that enjoy a predominately malt based beer, low ABV and light texture. gsmitty80 (653), Washington DC, USA

Some of the reds are trying to do more hoppy tatses and be bolder, but this was clean and crisp. Maybe that is why they named it Retro. beernovice39 (316), South Carolina, USA

Not my favorite blancing act. DrnkMcDermott (1865), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA

Hoppy smell comes right out of the bottle as I pop the cap. Pours a solid reddish-brown with a big tan head that I can see dropping away. Taste is pretty standard for the style, though. Extra malts seem lend itself to a touch of phenol. Hops are there, but the beer is still a touch too sweet for my taste.
