12 oz bottle from the sampler pack. Aroma- Smoke aroma is present and noticeable, but not overwhelming or harsh. Caramel and biscuit aromas exist in balance with smoke. Clean aroma, no esters, phenols, diacetyl or sulphur. Appearance- Dark Orange, with great clarity. Light tan head, with moderate reslilience. Flavor- Smoke is more pronounced in the flavor, but still not harsh. Medium sweetness and a semi-rich malt flavor smooth out the smoke. A low hop flavor but medium hop bitterness that has just enough oomph to dry it a little at the end. Nice. Palate- This beer is extremely drinkable. The smoke does not offend at all. A low dryness exists, Low body with moderate carbonation. Overall- This is another example of low-gravity beers earning too low of a score. This is a great smoked lager, probably one of my faforite lagers ever, and it get’s a 66. If it were an 8% hop bomb, it would earn a 99. This is not an 8% hop bomb however, and it is wonderful. Balance is tremendous.

Bottled. Poured clear medium garnet with a dense cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up sweeter caramel and fruity notes paired with charred hickory smoke.. soft, nearly too sweet on the malt front, but very well balanced. The flavor found the same sweetness along with a pinch of honey at the core.. smoke was light, but ever-present across the palate.. finished tart with some earthy character joining the sweetness and smoke. Light-medium bodied with moderate-plus carbonation.. tart where it needed to be with a great flow.. I really dug this.

Nice, pronounced smoke aroma. Smoke is present, but not at all dominant in the flavor. Quite harmoniously integrated in with the light caramel malt sweetness. Nice.

12oz bottle from total wine and more in atlanta. dark copper pour with a thin off-white head. smoke aroma. some caramel in there somewhere, but mainly smoke. flavors of caramel and roasted malts and then the smoke - actually a little less than I would’ve expected given the smell - but it’s the main attraction. caught the caramel again and slight citrus hops. I am not generally a smoke brew fan (even the ones that are highly thought of) -- those was ok though.

Bottle… Clear copper lager with a small, fizzy, white head. A smoked meat component dominates the aroma, but there’s plenty of caramel as well. Light to medium-bodied with gentle carbonation. The flavor is thin, but well-balanced with a nice smoky aspect and hints of caramel and spicy hops. Moderate, minerally bitter finish.

A lightly hazed copper lager with a thin creamy light moka head. Light smoked peaty aroma over herbal malts, light signs of oxidation. In mouth, a sweet malt with nice smoked notes, light and pleasant. Medium bodied. Bottle from Half Time, from a mix 12 pack, July 2008, tasted Oct. 21 2009.

Nice aroma of caramel malts, smoke. The appearance is a nice clear orange/red color, white head. The flavor is smoke, earthy, peat, caramel. Decent. The mouthfeel is medium, maybe a little thin. The palate is light hop bittering, smoke again. Decent rauchbier all in all.
