rader58 (47), Leawood, Kansas, USA Jul 8, 2008 Darkish opaque honey color. Slightly sweet aroma. Flavor is smoky malt with a slight bitter aftertaste. Almost has a finish not unlike a good bourbon. Interesting flavor.
obxdude10 (1403), Reading, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 29, 2008 This beer has a very nice smoked aroma to it, almost like beef jerky in a way. It pours an amber color with a thick off-white head. The head leaves a great amount of lacing around the glass, as well. This tastes much like an ordinary lager, except with a little smoky flavor. This is almost like a Slim Jim in a bottle, to a certain extent. It’s not overly smoky though, like a couple of others I’ve tasted in the past. The finish features a bit more smokiness and a smooth malty finish. There’s a hint of caramel and hops in the body as well. emacgee (1200), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Nov 20, 2008 Pours a murky brown with copper gold in the light. Has a thin frothy tan head. The nose is caramel, sweet, bready, smoky, lagery, earthy. The flavor is grainy, lightly smoky, earthy, lager characteristics. kcdoom (4), merriam, Kansas, USA does not count Oct 31, 2008 12 oz. bottle. This was perhaps the worst beer I have ever tried in my entire life. Smoke flavors are plentiful in this beer. The smoke flavor overwhelmed the beer. My palate had to be cleansed with a shot of bourbon. I can’t get over the smoke flavor. If you like a smoke beer, this is the one for you. theisti (1180), Leawood, Kansas, USA Oct 26, 2008 12 oz bottle purchased at Lukas in Overland Park, Kansas. Pour is clear golden burgundy with a very minimal off white head. Aroma of sweet biscuit maltiness, some honey notes. Taste is the sweet maltiness initially, moving to an almost soda water mineral in the middle, finishing with a smoky roastiness that kind of came out of nowhere. Palate is thinnish, drinkable with a dry ashy finish. Not unpleasant, just a bit disjointed. JB175 (1420), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 23, 2008 Amber color with a roasty-smoky, bready aroma. Flavor has a nice dose of malt that accompanies a large bed of smoke, bread, caramel, and classic lager. Should be rated a bit higher IMHO - not that its the greatest Rauchbier around, but for the ABV and flavor its dang good!
