stetzel (22), portland, Oregon, USA Apr 4, 2008 had on tap at the horse brass.very approachable bourbon barrel beer.not alot of bourbon heat, what it did get from the cask was tons of vanilla flavor.the stout its self is very nw big malt backbone, and the hops to back it up.
Angeloregon (1829), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 3, 2008 On tap at Belmont Station for Barrelfest--Poured a rich dark brown-black body with a thin off-white head. Thick, viscous and creamy-oily. Lots of heavy malt and bourbon in the nose as well as some spicy hops. Very thick. Complex, fruity, rich, dark and nutty. A lot going on in this one. Very nice. DA (2376), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Jul 1, 2008 On tap at Belmont Station. Pours very dark brown, close to black, but to thin to get that motor oil look to it. Very solid stout, the bourbon is pronounced but not overwhelming, complimenting the dry dark chocolate flavor. Finish is like cocoa powder and some burnt chocolate residue. Decent body on the palate, but I’ve had too many over-the-top imp stouts recently to call it heavy by any means. Well built and a nice treat. Pitch black with smallish head that does leave some decent lace.
Toffee, caramel, chocolate, marshmallow, raisin, bit of oaky vanilla and bourbon.
Tastes very similar to the nose. Big malty flavors with raisin, caramel, marshmallow, chocolate, vanilla and small bit of bourbon oak.
Smooth and kinda creamy mouthfeel but a little over-carbonated. Pretty damn drinkable. boFNjackson (502), Portland, Oregon, USA Mar 22, 2008 Tap at the Green Dragon, board said this one was Bourbon Barrel aged... Poured black with a thin tan head. Espresso aroma. Spicy alcohol mixed with hops, malt, and leafy herbs. Chocolate and caramel give way to the chalky, dark malt, stout aesthetic.
