Ungstrup (10824), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 4, 2008 Draft at the brewpub. I was told it was an American Strong, not a BW as it is presently listed. A hazy amber beer wtih a thin orangey head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of citrusy and other fruits, one of which is peach. The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of fruit among them peaches, as well as a light touch of alcohol, leading to a grapefruity hoppy finish. DA (2261), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Nov 4, 2007 Pretty good barley wine, built to drink now with a good balance of hops and malt instead of overhopped and set to age. The alcohol was strong, but I was expecting that with this being new. Earthy toasted malt quality up front, long caramel flavor. My only negative thoughts on this were the excessive alcohol that showed through. JoeM500 (1877), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA Oct 7, 2007 Deep, dark red, still. no head. Nose was sweet but a bit fiery. Alcohol upfront as i put it to my lips. Sweet malts were more on the grainy side but enough sweetness as not to make it rough on my palate. Fiery throughout, high alcohol or just unmasked and out on it’s own. Not much hops at the finish/ Angeloregon (1516), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 3, 2007 Big deep beer. Dark chestnut copper almost looked like a stout initially. Nose of alcohol heat. Big robust hoppiness and malt character. This one is a beast! stinging hot. Nice and warming. Oakes (6787), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Jul 25, 2007 Dark amber. Smells caramelly, toffeeish, boozy. Not bad though...at the better end of those three. OK, it’s a touch cloying on the palate. It’s chewy and toffeeish, yes, but thankfully it ends with an alcoholic and woody hop dryness.
