DuffManSW (287), Riverside, California, USA Nov 20, 2009 Bottle thanks to lufootball..Thanks John...Pours a murky dark brown with a off white head..Aroma is caramel, dark fruits, smoke and some wood..Starts off woody then finishes with a dark fruit sweetness.. Medium body and medium carbonation.. Tasty stuff! joeneugs (306), Livermore, California, USA Nov 17, 2009 Pours orange/brown with an orange head. Lots of sediment. Sweet barleywine like aroma, with plums, orange, chocolate, waterlogged wood, and caramel. The flavor is thick, sweaty, and very tasty with notes of chocolate, caramel, toffee, wood, vanilla, licorice, orange and spices. Very nice, but lacks the refinement of a truly great beer. badgerben (3590), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Nov 17, 2009 Dark ruby brown with a thin head. Heavy corn, vanilla and a touch of oak char. Caramel, butterscotch and bourbon flavors. A bit of roasty astringency. Light earthy hop. Full bodied. Taverner (835), San Ramon, California, USA Nov 17, 2009 Nice! Pours a dark opaque brown with tan head. Aroma has notes of malted chocolate balls, and whoppers. Flavor is not overly sweet, and finishes clean. Lots of good chocolatey notes in this one, as well as some great tanins. zach8270 (2075), Henrietta, New York, USA Nov 15, 2009 (bottle - 12 oz) Dark ruby pour with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is a ton of oak, smoke, and caramel malts. Flavor is much the same. Very sweet from the oak but balanced well with the smoky and roasted malts. Smooth and delicious and easy to drink. Loved it. NayTron (37), Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA Nov 15, 2009 Pours a deep ruby amber. Smells of a blended bourbon and sugar. Big thick smooth mouthfeel with scotch, vanilla, caramel and finishing with some black cherrys. Smell and taste are night and day. What a treat. Well balanced and delicious. Will be picking up more for some snowy nights. Founders does it again. AlphaBear (10), Pennsylvania, USA Nov 14, 2009 The oak bourbon barrels dominated this beer. It looks delicious, but the taste disappoints. I plan to try this beer again after it has aged awhile in the bottle. It was bottled on 11/05/2009 and I drank it on the 13th. Overall I was not impressed! GrungyBob (7), Kettering, Ohio, USA does not count Nov 13, 2009 bottle. Pours a deep reddish brown looks thick almost no head what head was there was creamy smooth. Aroma smells of vanilla brown sugar other flavors bourbon initial taste is malty sweet and smooth - too smooth. Bourbon finish overpowers any flavor the beer might have had. I expected a little more beer bite. overall good but doesn’t knock me out at $15. a 4 pack. I thinks it tasted better upon initial pour after sitting a while is loose quite a bit of flavor
