buckybeer (666), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA Jan 28, 2008 Pours dark copper with a faint head. Aroma is tart bourbon, malts, vanilla, sugars, oak. I’m usually not into
bourbon barrel beers but this one is quite nice. Nothing is overdone. Flavor is mild bourbon, maybe some cherry,
vanilla, malts and woody hints. I wish I would have bought more now. Oh well. Nicely done.
punkrkr27 (360), Clawson, Michigan, USA Dec 4, 2008 Deep ruby/mahogany pour with a frothy, tan, off-white head. Lots of vanilla and caramel aroma with a background of smoke, figs, and faint chocolate. Dark fruit and smoke flavor upfront with lingering vanilla and a bourbon kick. Creamy medium body. coyotehunter (35), , Michigan, USA Dec 2, 2008 pours a medium dark amber with a good aroma of bourbon and malt. has some nut in the background finishing with the burn of a mix of scotch and bourbon...the scotch flavor being the peat in the background.
good. Goblincat (338), Westland, Michigan, USA Dec 1, 2008 Pours very dark with a thin tan head. The aroma is a nice caramel, malt, and some bourbon. The taste is different, with the bourbon coming forward along with vanilla, oak, and strong nuttiness. Quite thick and complex. Very nice. noncaloric (197), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Nov 30, 2008 Aroma of fresh oak sawdust with a little caramel hiding behind. Pours a deep clear mahogany, a finger of head even in a broad glass, but it disspiates quickly into spots of lace. Like the aroma, flavor is dominated by resinous oaky flavors, very aromatic and penetrating. Caramel and nutty malts, a bit of peat smoke, and a tart fruit (somewhere between cherry and orange peel) slip through the oak before it fades into a long bitter finish of aged woods. Palate is smooth, finishing with tannic astringency. jeffwilliams11 (304), hooterville, Michigan, USA Nov 30, 2008 pours clear deep red with no head at all. aroma is all bourbon, as is the flavor. there is no beer flavor to this at all, it only tastes like bourbon. slightly flat, mildly syrupy beer. not my favorite founders beer by far...
