Bananas and other fruits that do not grow here in Minnesota. Some exotic spices also. A nice Quad. SoLan (1427), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 13, 2006 Amber/brown. Disappearing tan film. Nose is spicy, fruity- light and dark, lightly sweet, and lightly toasty. Flavor of banana, plum, licorice, dark candi sugar, toasted malt, and spicy yeast. Full body, balanced. Solid American version. Underrated. MI2CA (1266), Noblesville, Indiana, USA

Pours hazy copper with a ring for head and good lacing. Flavor is intially astringent alcohol and paint thinner. Then comes the cherry and bubblegum. Palate is sticky. While not entirely terrible, it isn’t very good either. Brigadier (1246), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA

I picked up a four pack of this. It turned out to be a small mistake. Usually Founders releases well done beers, but this one is just off somehow. Now to figure out what to do with the last two bottles ...
Aroma / Appearance - Yeasty sediment was sitting on the bottom of the bottle. I carefully poured to avoid getting it into my glass but a few particles still made their way into the cloudy body. A one-finger off white head sat on top of a copper colored body. Cherries, walnut, vanilla, bananas and molasses form a very thin nose which is a letdown compared to other quads.
Flavor / Palate - The first sip was hot. After that settled down I picked up caramel, molasses and squash. There was not much complexity afterwards but in later sips I picked up strawberries and chocolate. While the mouthfeel was dense it was lacking any coherency. At the end was a peppery finish. Overall it felt more like a barley wine than a quad, especially when the cloying finish overtakes the throat. I don’t know if this one will improve with age but it can’t get any worse. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 11, 2006 bottle, at Dickinsonbeer’s Oktoberfest. thanks Paul! cloudy amber color, off white head. aroma is banana, "laffy taffy" candy, and bready malt. flavor is strong banana. a little dryish rum heat. finish a little sharp like a lower quality vodka w/ a bite. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 9, 2006 Thanks to Dickinsonbeer for this beer, though I think he was trying to get rid of it. Poured an effervescent semi-hazy copper with a fizzy light amber head that dissipated immediately. Aroma of cotton candy, bubble gum, alcohol, cough medicine. Flavor is quite astringent... sweet grapes are quickly overpowered by a medicinal and metallic character... not really dryness, but more like taking a shot of some chemical from a lab that people shouldn’t drink. Alcohol burns all the way down to the stomach. Some flavors of bubble gum and cheap whiskey are left in the mouth. I didn’t think it was that bad at first, but the more I had of this, the less I could stand. Stick to stouts and IIIPA’s, Founders. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 8, 2006 Sampled with Beerdrenched, Sneagrams3 and thegreenroster. Pours orange with a small white head. The aroma has lots of cotton candy sweetness that is simplistic. Medium thick body with lots ot stickiness and mild carbonation. Taste starts with cotton candy sweetness and alcohol. The finish has alcohol burn. This had to be the bottom of the Founder’s barrel - usually they are quite consistant. Bad Habit = Bad Quad. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 6, 2006 bottle-thanks to vyvvy for bringing this over the other night. pours copper with no head. nose is cloying sweet with lots of candy notes. man, that is sweet. quite a bit of banana in there now what I would associate with a quad. flavors are all sweet and cloying and alcohol is all over this one. man, what happend founders? i do give props for them attempting such a style.
