Sugary. Flavor has chewy caramel, toffeeish character. There is a strong citrus character like ruby-grapefruit. Alcohol reveals itself in the finish. goldtwins (4080), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 14, 2006 Poured a murky dark orange/amber color with a medium but short lived off-white head. Sweet aroma was fruity and phenolic with bubble gum, artificial banana, caramel, sugar, alcohol and light spice. Phenolic flavor with banana, clove, aged fruit, and caramel. The finish is a little hot and has a harsh bite and bitterness to it. Semi-dry finish and warming in the throat. CharlesDarwin (1846), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 14, 2006 Aroma blasts forth a heavy phenolic crush of banana skins and ripe fruits. Surprising for the style. This is carried along with a quite hot alcohol. Flavor is more of the phenolic yeast character, but moreso in a sweet, bright crisp fruity schnapps character, yet a little shallow. The flavor runs a current of milder malts and not a depth of sugars. There are some noticable aged belgian style hop characters. Alcohol is very warm and biting and the beer could use a little more depth for the style. Really not terrible though. xproudfoot (729), Paleolithic, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 9, 2006 Banana nut gumm pineapple seductive spice aroma. pure amber looks with fast diminishing beige head, nearly opaque beer. Big gumm, with coria, citrus malt, pineapple, weird a bit overpowered. medium very flavorful palate, a bit like jet fuel. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Oct 9, 2006 Thanks to Scott for this one. Pours out a dark brown color with no head. Smell is medicinal and kind of fruity. Taste is sharp with alcohol and produces a fairly large warming effect. This one needs some age, right now it is pretty brutal. Not really what I was expecting from a brewery of the quality that is founders.. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Oct 8, 2006 From a 12 oz. stubby brown bottle, no bottling date, sampled at a cooler cellar temperature in a chalice.
Poured a golden hued, cloudy orangey amber with a foamy off-white head that settled into a thin, bubbly lacing.
Aromas of nuts, bananas and bubble gum, and a candied pear fruitiness.
Good carbonation, but not too fizzy, and a crisp, dryish, smooth medium-light bodied mouthfeel.
I think the taste could be better with a little aging, clove nuttiness, bananas, traces of bubble gum, candied sugar and pears, light spiciness, a subtle caramel and cocoa, the alcohol is a bit solvent-like and is warming in the palate, and a dryish candied pear and caramel finish.
I have a feeling this would be better with a year or so aging, the flavors need to blend together a bit more, the fruitiness needs be to more pronounced for my taste.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 5, 2006 Thanks to OhioDad for this. Pours a medium red brown with almost no head. Aroma is just like many people say. Malts and banana. Flavor is heavy on the ripened banana side. But I did not find it to be in a bad way. Alcohol is noticable and it warms up the gut. I liked it.
