Founders Bad Habit Quad

(Bottle, courtesy of Pailhead) Pours a cloudy burnt orange body with a small beige head. Aroma of caramel, alcohol, dates, apple, and ginger. Flavor of candi sugar, ginger, malt, licorice, caramel, herbs, fruit, and tabacco.

Pours a dark reddish brown, with a 1/8 inch head that fades rapidly to a very thin, spotty cap, leaving behind minimal lacing. I really like the color, but the lack of head retention is a bit disapointing, even for a this high abv beer. Smell; very belgianesque, with candied sugar and somewhat yeasty. The dark fruits are pleasant, with cherries and plums, but there’s also some bubblegum and a little banana. Taste; the bubblegum and bananas come out a bit more strongly in the flavor. The candied sugar has a significant presence, and the cherries and plums make a nice appearance as well. Not quite as good as the nose, but still nice. Mouthfeel is on the thin side, especially with the lack of carbonation to help out. Drinkability is not bad for such a big beer. Overall this is a beer I definitely preferred on tap as opposed o the bottle, but I still found it pretty enjoyable. Can’t wait to see what Founders decides to bottle next.

this was kinda cool. there were apricpots, apple, carmel, cloves, and some lighter fruits. a good malt backbone but lots of alcohol on the nose and up front.

Pours a slightly cloudy auburn; one finger worth of dense off-white head sits on top and eventually setles to a thin layer and leaves sheets of lace as it goes down. Aroma is intensely malty sweet with some grassy & clover-like hops. Flavor is a big hit of rich sugary caramel malt followed by a sharp hop bitterness. Hops also show some sour-grass and a tiny bit of spice. Thick mouthfeel with a sticky palate. Pleasant but not terribly complex for a quad. Still, it seems to be rated a bit harshly here; maybe it’s not as good from a bottle or something.

Bottle- Thanks JoeMuck. This beer pours out a hazy amber brown with a reddish copper head. Not much carbonation as the initiall pour fades out quickly. The smell is of orange peels, with a damped basement smell, Taste is lively with a fizz to it that turn sour. Some bourbon notes to it, and a grapy finish to it that makes this beer a complicated one to like.

Pours a cloudy brown color with a ring of offwhite lace on top of it. Good aroma and flavor of chocolate, caramel and malt. The palate is light and liquorous while the carbonation is soft.

12 oz bottle via PAILHEAD (thanks!). This one pours a dark amber with a small beige head. Nose is quite strong of acetone, alcohol, yeast. Taste is the same with some added fruity easters, mostly strawberries and melon, as well as some spiciness, perhaps some coriander. Moderate carbonation and a full body. Don’t care much for this one......

Gosh, I really liked this, I’m surprised by the low rating. Spectrums of orange/red, with a white ring of head. Attractively, lovely, relatively under-appreciated aroma of grape, port. Sticky, syrupy sweet. Great impression on palate. Bottle.
