Flavor is full and rich, roasty chocolate. Note sure where the rye is, but I’m also not sure this beer really needs anything more. Delicious. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 11, 2006 Bottle courtesy of Tpaliga: Poured a medium black color ale with a medium foamy head with average retention. Aroma of hops is dominant with some traces of malt being noticeable. Taste consists of predominantly citrus hops with a bitter finish and some light roasted malt. Body is a bit thin IMO and rye is very hard to detect. I would have appreciated a bit more complexity and less reliance on hops personally. milewide (612), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

Nice mix of hop and rye bitter/sour with roasted malt flavor. Medium body and low sweetness make this the BEST dark beer that I’ve tried. IMO, this is the perfect blend of hops and roasted malt! buckybeer (666), Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 5, 2006 Black, as advertised, with a thick tan head. Great rich malt aroma, smells of hops, chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Medium to heavy body, with a sharp hop bitter. Reminds me of a good porter, despite the classification. A bit bitter in the finish.
