Small, bubling foam. Aroma is cocoa. Taste is roasty at first with a medium amount of earthy hops. Lingering roast and bitterness. Enjoyable, not overly complex. Thanks Hemmer77! | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 18, 2006 Pours a deep red-brown, almost black, with a big light tan head. Very chocolatey aroma, like Brooklyn’s BCS. Flavor is sweet and chocolatey, with a rye kick in the middle and a bitter finish. zathrus13 (1313), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 10, 2006 Pours dark brown/black, with a light brown head. Aromas are roasted malt, chocolate, smoke, and rye. Flavors are roasted malt, smoke, hops, chocolate, and rye. The rye is rather subtle. This is a really nice beer, but Triumph’s Roggenbock is a better dark rye beer. Saarlander (1583), Rancho Cucamonga, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 3, 2006 Been looking forward to this one for a while, poured black, with a decent head, that was quickly gone. Abit bitter/burnt taste on the first sip, but as it warmed, it became much more drinkable,a hop bite on the finish. Really wondering what type of beer this should be classified as.... lol! Thanks to 1FastSTi for the brew! FROTHINGSLOSH (2038), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Aug 15, 2006 Updated: Aug 27, 2007An acquaintance from out of state brought this one. This is the only beer I have had from this brewer. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a medium sized brown head. The aroma is faintly sour and malty with a light roasty undertone. The flavor is strong roasted malts with a tangy sour middle and a hint of dry rye bitterness on the finish. The finish is extremely long and roasty. kmweaver (2489), Sebastopol, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 14, 2006 Dark cola appearance with a fluffy tan head. Well-laced. Huge aroma: sweet hop profile, surrounded by cocoa, vanilla, and spice (reminiscent of Alpha Klaus). It smells wonderful. Balanced mouthfeel, no disconnect from the aroma: good levels of citrusy bitterness at first contact, evened out by dark chocolate and a lightly-roasted quality. Medium, slightly-dry cocoa finish. Excellent.
