| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 8, 2005 thanks to santa my santa for this baby. not a pitch black pour, but it will do. a bit of red seen through the edges when held aloft. a sweet tan head to this bugger, damn it is thick. oak, chocolate, and cashew nose. peanut butter toast taste with some marshmallows and wet paper. bitter finish that is like coffee bitterness, but not quite, more cocoa flavor in the finish is present and works well. a bit too dry however. this is the final beer in my red white and black tasting. damn i like rye beers, and this is good, but i may still be in the thralls of the red rye.just a wonderful bittter note to this that goes great with the sweetness. reminds me a bit of a good oatmeal stout, but not as sweet, yet better, hell i’m not sure what i’m saying except that this is a good beer. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 3, 2005 Bottle. big thanks tro TChrome for sharing this. Opaque body with a thin spotty wispy film of bubbles. Nose-it has that raw unrefined ricey rye nose-in a VERY good way. Taste-spiceiness from the malts, coffee, perfume, light alcohol. Very, very well done. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 2, 2005 Dark chocolate-brown body with a thick, creamy beige head. Aroma of rye, chicory, coffee, dark chocolate, and roast. Sweet chocolate and toffee malt flavors plus a nice marriage between the rye sharpness and hops. Develops very nicely as it warms. Yet another good one from Founders. kramer (2469), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 29, 2005 12 oz bottle, via trade w/Drnk-McDermott. Pours a dark brown under a minimal head. Nice rye aroma with floral hops, bitter chocolate, and some roastyness. Roasty rye flavor with alot of depth. Dry bitter finish with coffee notes. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. A good all-around Rye beer. Why don’t more breweries dabble in the Rye? beeryum (652), Norcross, Georgia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 29, 2005 Bottle. Pours deep dark brown. Huge aroma of roasted malts, chocolates, and piney hops. Flavors similar, with coffee and nice rye flavors and a touch of nut. Decent body and mouthfeel. Wonderful beer, wish I could get it locally. Ughsmash (4050), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 26, 2005 Bottled. Pour was a deep garnet with a 3/4" creamy toffee-colored head. Some sediment suspended in there, and a well-coating lacing followed it down. Nose picked up chocolate, piney hoppage, and toasted chestnuts. Flavor of rich toasted chocolate and nuttiness upfront, followed by huge dose of fresh pine needles. Medium-bodied and smooth across the palate, with a sticky, spicy, almost cloying chocolate finish. Residual bitterness around the tongue and at the top of the throat. Quite a tasty brew. TChrome (1299), Bedford, Texas, USA
