leems (147), Portland, Oregon, USA Jul 5, 2009 12oz shared by Beardface. Black with very large frothy head. Coffee coffee coffee. Chocolate, a little (slightly overdone caramel) and did I mention coffee? I was a bit hung over so didn’t enjoy this as much as I should have, solid though. NoiZe (1288), Mooi Zeist, Netherlands Jul 1, 2009 Black colored brew. Burned malty aroma. Flavor is coffee, burned malts, ddark chocolate, oatmeal, hops. Really a nice, thick, balanced brew. I want more. jthg (66), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 29, 2009 A great beer that slowly mixes the tastes together coffee with the bitterness perfectly. A very smooth beer. Very smooth beer. Finishes great. BVery (445), Burnsville, Minnesota, USA Jun 28, 2009 BOTTLE: jet black oily pour, roasty chocolaty nose. Bitter taste - roasted coffee comes through, and lots of dark chocolate. Ridiculously good - one of the best beers I’ve had. jameswolfe (141), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jun 27, 2009 So delicously dark you can almost eat it. I cannot wait to try the KBS, if it really is better than this, it will be impressive. crzybob77 (528), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jun 26, 2009 I picked this up during a trip to Asheville, NC in November ’08 before Founders started showing up in Richmond in Spring ’09. This was my first Founders beer, and it is certainly quite a treat. Pours black as can be. This beer is insanely drinkable. I was very surprised considering that this is a 8.3% imperial stout, many of which are good, but sometimes tough to drink. I immediately get oats and chocolate with a finishing bitter flavor from coffee and hops. This is the breakfast of champions. thewombat (112), Brooklyn, New York, USA Jun 24, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark black, thick with brown head. Aroma is bitter roast coffee, Tastes semi-dry, not very sweet, strong coffee flavor, a bit of dark chocolate, Very intense dry bitter beer. Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Jun 22, 2009 12 oz bottle acquired via trade and consumed while camping Memorial Day in the AM. Pours out pitch black with a massive mocha colored head. Aroma is hefty on roasted coffee, with light chocolate and some molasses as well. The flavor is all roasted coffee save for a very mild chocolate presence for some slight balance. Still extremely tasty though, wish I had a few more.
