Commercial Description:
You’ve got to love coffee to truly appreciate this phenomenal brew. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and sweetened imported chocolates, Sumatra and Kona coffee. We’re actually not sure if this is some type of coffee cake or a beer. Either way you can drink this ale with a fork. Breakfast Stout has an intense fresh roasted coffee nose toped with a cinnamon colored frothy head that seems to never fade and makes you wish breakfast could last forever.

Smells of bitter dark chocolate, light fresh sourdough bread and used coffee grounds. Flavor is dominated by nasty used coffee grounds, not roasty just bitter coffee. Mouthfeel is just average for the style and could definitely use more weight and silkiness. Overall a bland palate and overdone done coffee. Sorry Founders, I love you anyway. 2008 12 oz.

Thanks to Gypsy19 for sharing! ~Pours pitch black with small brown head. ~Strong coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt aroma. ~Bitter coffee flavor with dark chocolate. ~Thin oily feel, bitter coffee finish, burns back of mouth. ~Good beer. Very bitter, a bit thin. Good aroma and flavor.

Big thanks to MrChopin for this one. Really glad I finally got to try it - been hearing about it forever. Pours black, with a thinnish light brown head. Big aroma of stale coffee, some spices (anise, cloves?), and some of the traditional chocolate and molasses. But it’s definitely more roasty than sweet. Nice mouthfeel, and man, there’s a lot of coffee in here. I wish there was a bit more carbonation - it isn’t quite lively enough. Really nice flavor, though - and I could see this being great in the late morning / early afternoon hours (though that’s still a concept I’m not used to). Lots and lots of roasty coffee, layered over dark chocolate and burnt molasses. Nice, but honestly? I don’t think it’s quite worth the hype.

Sampled on draft at Smokin Joes in Pittsburgh PA this beer poured a pitch black color with a a large, creamy and exceptionally dark brown head - absolutely lovely. The aroma was fairly mediocre dry roasty coffee with not a whole lot more going on. The flavor was an incredibly rich and complex mix of sweet chocolate, cream, toasty malts, marshmallow, malted milk and light sweet coffee. The finish was exceptionally long and smooth with sweet toasty chocolate and malted milk. The mouthfeel was thick and smooth. Very complex with a whole lot going on. Incredible!

Long ago trade with pantanap-thanks. Black, no head. Lots of coffee, chocolate, smoothness. Suprisingly a bit thinner than expected. Alcohol subdued. Well done but I like the KBS better.

12 oz bottle courtesy of ygtbsm94. Pours an opaque black color with a small tan head. The aroma is big and bold with chocolate, burnt malts and coffee. The flavor is more coffee, more chocolate and more coffee. Somewhere in the taste is a bit of tart hops providing a nice complexity. The mouthfeel is full and creamy. The finish is long with lingering coffee and biter walnuts. Overall: A very tasty stout that compares favorably to the worlds best. Thanks brad.
