Bottle->snifter: pours a small, diminishing, dark brown head that exhibits good lacing atop a ruby body. Aroma of caramel and coffee. The body is light, texture creamy, showing no carbonation and having a bitter finish. The flavor’s duration is average, lightly sweet, acidic, and bitter, with some sour milk characteristics. A truly fine beer.

Bottle thanks to mattmc1973. Pour is black with medium tan head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, brown sugar, and light tobacco. Flavor is sweet malt and coffee up front with a mellow lingering sweetness and chocolate finish. Very tasty stuff and an awesome label.

My first week back from a medical leave and the bar has Breakfast Stout on draft. Boo-YAH! I missed the rush to try Founders imperial stout when it first came out. Man, I missed out. Full bodied stout that hits you with flavors of coffee, chocolate, and oats blended perfectly together. Drinkable, enjoyable and a masterpiece of a brew.

the commercial description is bang on. this brew knocks you over with coffee and it truly impresses with every sip. It has the strongest coffee aroma I’ve ever experienced in a beer. This also carries through in the flavour. It is soooo smooth and easy to drink. No alcohol noticeable Although it may lack the complexity of dark lord it is a truly great beer, one of my favourite imperial stouts.

Pours black with a half-finger head that doesn’t linger, though the lacing clings nicely. Exceptional aroma with notes of coffee and dark chocolate. Wow, the flavor is intense and unique. Complex flavors with strong notes of dark roast coffee and a touch of chocolate. Very well balanced. Mouth feel is luxurious. This is absolutely the best stout I’ve tried yet.

not too carbonated, this one comes across very different with massive coffee and bitter chocolate. It is not sweet like many stouts but not excessively bitter either. It has a dryness to it that definately sets it apart from many other beers. I think I paid 14 bucks for it in South Carolina, so it better be good. It doesn’t disappoint. It ends with a chocolate/ slight bitter alcohol finish. i will have to say I am pretty impressed with founders. they do great stuff

Original review date 10/6/2008...Fall 2008 installment into trusty Alpine mug... Pours a molasses/motor oil black. Head is very thin and colored like brown sugar and cinnamon with little staying power. Still this looks formidable. The coffee and bittersweet chocolate dominate with a little oatmeal and mega-roasted malt texture. Hop grass complements nicely. Very complex texture of deep-roasted malt, coffee and natural, unsweetened chocolate. Chocolate further syncs up with a mild oatmeal texture to provide an austere and dry but painfully compelling stout profile. There’s nothing, I repeat...NOTHING bad about the mouthfeel on this one. Rich yet dry and even clean for something so huge. Full finish gives off a little oatmeal chocolate chip sweetness. Definitely Beautiful Chemistry working here. Having said all that, this is definitely a sipper. I can’t wait to pair this up with a big, fat charred steak...and some brownies...and a...

Appearance: black, brown head. Aroma: chocolate, coffee, dark roasted barley. Very nice. Flavor: Starts with strong coffee, light chocolate. Some alcohol. Ends with tasty, lightly bitter chocolate, slightly chalky finish. Body: Appropriate, maybe a bit thin. Outstanding stout.
