Aroma of chocolate, oatmeal, coffee and roasted malt. Taste of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee and oatmeal. Goes down pretty smooth and hides the alcohol well. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 24, 2009 Bottle from Table and Vine in MA. Pours thick black with a nice creamy brown head, warmed to 55-60 degrees. Aroma has rich espresso, notes of licorice, ash, and dark chocolate. Nice mouthfeel on this guy, real creamy and rich, with a full flavor. Body has notes of coffee, primarily, with some mid-palate burnt wood and toffee. Finish descends gently into brown sugar, roasts, baker’s chocolate and more coffee. Excellent brew, extremely well-balanced. Elwood (677), Leesburg, Virginia, USA
| 4.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Mar 24, 2009 12 oz. bottle. My 100th beer picked on the forum and boy did they choose well! Pours pitch black like used oil with a monsterous creamy brown head. The head is very slow to fade and a sticks to the glass the whole way down, leaving glorius lacing. The aroma is huge. From two feet away I can smell chocolate and roasted malt. As I get closer, I pick up big coffee notes, hints of ripe fruit, and oats. Creamy, thick, and viscous on the tongue. Oily and coating all the way down. The balance here is extraordinary. The palate is awash with chocolate, coffee, deeply roasted malt, oats, and a touch of dark fruit. A bitter chocolate taste lingers in the mouth. Heavy, rich and absolutely decadent! Blaze312 (132), Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA

Has an aroma of coffee, and chocolates. Flavor is similar with a hint of bitter and oats. All in all a pretty good brew. ($9.99/4pk) MitchWayne (264), Kokkola, Finland
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 23, 2009 Roasted coffee aroma with some salty notes, lasting head, good roasted coffee taste with balsy bitterness in the end. Would have appreciated this even more if a certain european beer involved with those darn weasels wouldn’t have come and triumphed over this. Really good stuff and damn if I could get this here by the dozen I would. Fin (3402), Merton, Oxfordshire, England

The aroma is coffee and also a ouch of resin is noted. Coffee rush in the mouth, its creamy, some chocolate, roasty malts, even a slight sourness on the edge which tastes great. Quite lovely and really quite distinctive with that Founders thumbprint coming through, I can’t describe it but there is some unique quality that sets there beers apart.
