Aroma is oatmeal, phenomenal roast aspect, and 100% cocoa chocolate. Flavor is overrun by roasty malted barley. Coffee follows in at a close second and offers complete domination of flavors. Balance, however, is expert and mediated nicely. Palate is thick, rich and oily. Big ups to Founders. craftycarl21 (521), South Hero, Vermont, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 6, 2009 pours a pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma is heavy with oats, coffee, bitter chocolate, and cream- very nice. Flavor is uber-roasty, lots of creaminess, coffee, and definitely the oats as well. Really great coffee stout, superb palate shifts from the bitter qualities to the smooth, sweet creamy finish. Excellent impy. CheersMate1 (785), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 4, 2009 Very dark black in color with a thin chocolate head. Great looking viscous black beer. Lovely aroma; at first the aroma is a bit woody, and then you get that sweet chocolate coffee aroma. It is not hard to smell very pungent beer. Nice thick sweet chocolate taste with a strong coffee after taste. This is comparable to Terrapin Wake & Bake with a bit less of the dominating coffee taste. Best part is the thick chocolate taste followed by the coffee with the bitter finish. Love this beer. Has a complex aroma and flavor. Great beer with great flavors. Can’t wait to try the Kentucky Breakfast. Strong stout. One of the best. basewars (145), Albany, New York, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 3, 2009 Pours deep black with plenty of brown head that slowly dissipates. This beer is almost all coffee. Both the aroma and the flavor are full of roasty coffee notes. Besides the coffee is nice chocolatey sweetness with some oatmeal. Full bodied. Hides the alcohol quite well. Nicely done. Mdgutows (42), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 2, 2009 Very very dark/black opaque brown. with about an 3/4 inch of brown head. Strong coffee aromas with rich roasted malts and chocolate also coming through nicely. A strong coffee flavor joined by chocolate, caramel, roasted malts, oatmeal. Flavor is slightly bitter overall. Smooth and creamy texture, light carbonation, and a slightly dry finish. This beer is all about the coffee. A wonderful breakfast stout. I really want some more. jbuzz (659), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 1, 2009 Thanks to Brian in PA for this one. As previous posts have said - you have to love coffee to love this one. Pours a deep black - totally opaque. Minimal brown head. Strong coffee aroma, which becomes more pleasant as the beer warms (not surprising). Flavor is coffee and roasted malt. What seems like hop bitterness is actually chocolate. I like this one a lot, but feel that there are others that are slightly more balanced and a bit better overall. But you can’t go wrong with a pint of this one. Strong lacing on the glass as you savor this one. Delicious. Not for the first-time stout drinker - you either won’t like it or won’t appreciate its complexity. Perfect beer for tonight, as we’re due for about 16" of snow! Narnad (689), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 27, 2009 Pours a very dark brown/black with a thin brown head. Aroma is very bitter with a lot of cold coffee and some very light sweet chocolate background. Flavor is bitter upfront with strong cold coffee flavor to start. This fades to a lighter chocolate middle but then finishes with a bitter chocolate/coffee flavor with a nice dryness to end. Beer is pretty smooth and has a good thickness to it. Meh, overall I think this beer is a bit over rated. It’s a good beer for what it is aiming to be but not something that is very drinkable all the time nor in a four pack. Thanks goodness I found a single bottle of it for its a bit to much coffee for my taste.
