Commercial Description:
You’ve got to love coffee to truly appreciate this phenomenal brew. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and sweetened imported chocolates, Sumatra and Kona coffee. We’re actually not sure if this is some type of coffee cake or a beer. Either way you can drink this ale with a fork. Breakfast Stout has an intense fresh roasted coffee nose toped with a cinnamon colored frothy head that seems to never fade and makes you wish breakfast could last forever.

Pours a deep dark brown, almost black, with a thin tan head that quickly disapates. Aroma of Coffee. Deep dark roasted malt. Tastes of coffee and coffee and more coffee. The commercial discription is acurate

Beer trade with nearbeer. Appearance: It pours a pitch black beer with no head at all. Aroma: Extremely strong with a huge amount of an excellent coffee blend which is accompanied by basil, (chili), sage and dark chocolate. Flavor and palate: Terribly complex. A huge amount of coffee appearing. Very low carbonation. Oats showing up. Smooth. Very long, deeply pleasant finish. Overall impression: A great beer. Wonderful. Thanks a lot nearbeer- I believe this to me one of the best Imperial Stouts I have ever had- I would love to try more beers from Founders!

courtesy of Allen - pitch black colour without head; pure and intense aroma of coffee beans with notes of sage and basil; roasted; thick and oily, low carbonation, solid bitterness; very long roasted coffeish aftertaste with more undefined herbal notes - powerful and quite complex: a beautiful beer

12oz shorty bottle. Thick black color with faded patches of rusty orange head. Smooth and luscious, probably the best oatmeal stout I’ve ever had. Perfect mouthfeel, full of flavor yet semi subued. Not syrupy or hoppy. I taste the coffee, but really don’t find it overwhelming, just part of the equation. Excellent stuff, creamy and rich, mellow carbonation.

bottle poured into a snifter has a dark ink black color and a frothy true brown head that pulls back to a ring. aroma has dark roasted coffee, rich dark cocoa, fresh earth, and some toasted wood. mouth feel is not overwhelming and it coats the tongue completely. the flavor and texture have both benefited well from the oats. flavor has powerful dark roasted coffee and a perfect level of bitterness. dark truffle like chocolate and sweetness come across as it warmed up finishing smooth with a slight bitter bite at the sides of the tongue. superb balance for such a huge beer

When poured has the consistency of watered down motor oil (yes I know that is an oxymoron). The smell is of burnt coffee, but I like that smell so it worked for me. Moderate to thick mouth feel. You can taste the chocolate and coffee, as well as the bitterness of the hops. I love the aftertaste of coffee in the morning and this has the same aftertaste so it lives up to its name of a Breakfast Stout. Label creeps me out but that will not reflect in score. Awesome beer. This stout reinforces why I love sweet stouts. The mix of sweet, bitter, and coffee will for ever leave me in aw.

Great tasting stout. Really smooth and drinkable with no taste of alcohol. Almost too smooth, I would have preferred some other flavors in the beer besides coffee and chocolate. Not much else going on. Very full bodied and densely flavored. Strong aroma. Light carbonation and low head.

Bottle - Poured black with a nice tan head. Sweet chocolate, coffee malty aroma. This beer really is amazing. Incredibly complex malt flavors with not a hint of the 8.3% alcohol. Great mouthfeel
