Pours jet black with a menacing ultra dark tan head that dwindles to a thin layer leaver spotty lacing. Aromas of espresso, cocoa, coffee grounds, molasses. Taste is huge on the coffee but not too astringent or acidic. Nice oily, coating mouthfeel. Some ultra dark chocolate in the finish. 8.3% is nicely hidden. Excellent. skoll (127), Traverse City, Michigan, USA

Aroma was dominated by roasted cofeee with a heaping of dose of dark chocolate. Poured pretty thick and it coated the mouth nicely, very velvety. Taste lingered for a while with its strong coffee and dark chocolate notes, everything about this was as promised no surprises. I just had to taste this one but it is not my style that is for sure. But on it’s merrits I give it a ........ maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA

| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jan 15, 2009 This is up there among my favorite beers-- I was moping about the three I had in my basement from last year’s brewing when I found that the local beer store had a case.
It’s an incredibly deep and complex beer, and around Philadelphia I’ve found that the biggest problem is that it gets served too cold (many bars serve pretty much everything at about the same temperature), and it’s so, so much better when it gets up above, I don’t know, 50 degrees. Warm, cold, whatever-- an excellent beer. coyotehunter (545), , Michigan, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 14, 2009 Oily pour with thin chocolate/beige/tan head. Very light coffee smells, really didnt overwhelm me. Didnt get a nose full. Tastes like....cofee. Bitter dry oatmeal and hop finsh. This would definitely go good with bacon and eggs. Good stout. scoobysnak (249), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 12, 2009 I mainly get just the coffee on this beer. I was almost unsure that it was an imperial if I didn’t already know it was one. Still very good if your dig coffee. DrDavid (957), Johnson, Vermont, USA
