Dec 30, 2008 Poured black and viscous like motor oil with a negliable amount of head. Had a HUGE coffee aroma that completely filled the senses. However the flavor was surprisingly light and refreshing and the coffee didn’t overpower in the mouth or the throat. In the end I felt the a slight bit 1-dimensional, but true to the name. Quite a remarkable beer that doesn’t try to overpower just because it could. Truly a nice drink.

Dec 30, 2008 Pour from the bottle revealed a dark black hue with a minimal tan head. Aromas of coffee and dark dark chocolate with a roasty smoky scent. Very smooth on your tongue. Biter cocoa, coffee and hops.Long finish to the beer with a predominant bitter hoppiness. Not as rich in complex flavors as I had hoped from such a renowned brew. Tasty overall though.

Dec 28, 2008 Rating 700. 12oz bottle from Parti-Pak Liquors (Indianapolis, IN). Pours a velvety dark black immpermeable to light with a thick frothy milk chocolate head that settles slowly and laces the glass heavily. Aroma is strong roasted malt and coffee notes with hints of wheat, caramel and bourbon. Flavor is much of the same – roasted malt and strong coffee notes with hints of molasses, toffee, dark chocolate and hints of bourbon and wood. Full body with a strong roasted coffee finish.

Dec 27, 2008 This was a good beer however not nearly as chocolatelaty or coffyish as others have been. good but does not stand up to its 100 rating. was disapointed. I think samsmith oatmeal and sam adams chocolat bock blow this away

Dec 27, 2008 Bottle. Pitch black, opaque. Aroma not very strong. Flavor is very strong - very roasty, a little sweet with coffee as a lingering aftertaste.

Dec 27, 2008 Bottle. Pours with a pitch black color and a medium sized, creamy head. Aromas of chocolate and coffee. Flavors are mainly of coffee and roasted malts. Very smooth on the palate, with a nice full body. Finishes with a lasting bitterness. Outstanding.
