Commercial Description:
You’ve got to love coffee to truly appreciate this phenomenal brew. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and sweetened imported chocolates, Sumatra and Kona coffee. We’re actually not sure if this is some type of coffee cake or a beer. Either way you can drink this ale with a fork. Breakfast Stout has an intense fresh roasted coffee nose toped with a cinnamon colored frothy head that seems to never fade and makes you wish breakfast could last forever.

Not quite its kin "Kentucky Breakfast", but a damn fine beer. Pours to a burnt coffee black, with thick tan head hat dissipated fairly quickly and left decent lacing. Immediate nose of coffee, vanilla, chocolate and toffee, all blended together. As the beer warms around mid-glass, the 8.3 abv rolls nicely into the mix as well. Mouthfeel is full and sweet, with a hint of spiciness. Taste is truly a pleasure, as each of the ingredients in the nose take turns dancing ont the tongue, with the alcohol rounding them all up for a long warming finish. Most enjoyable.

Bottle shared for breakfast by decaturstevo. Poured black with a tall creamy brown head that is lasting and left big chunky lace. Huge coffee and chocolate aroma. Truly a breakfast beer with lots of roast coffee in the flavor. Full body that is bitter sweet and smooth. A very great stout!!

12oz bottle from marinos in toledo. pitch black pour with almost no head. awesome aroma - strong coffee and a hint of cinnamon. medium oily texture. sweet coffee and chocolate taste. oatmeal and a bit of vanilla come through. burnt coffee finish - but in a smooth way. really fantastic stout. K-9

pitch black with mild tan head. Mild carbonation, thick mouthfeel. Roasted nose with some hints of coffee. Huge flavor, which well represents all three major ingredients oats, coffee, and chocolate very well. Some roasted malt in there as well. Not a style I am incredibly famaliar with, but it’s very flavorful, but the flavors don’t meld perfectly, though I think this is more of a style characteristic. Very good beer

Pours very thick and dark and near pitch black with a thin brown head. Roasty and bitter dark coffee, turning creamy in the middle with the bitterness returning towards the finish. Notes of chocolate as well but I noticed that probably a little more in the aroma than the flavor, where coffee seems to be the strongest flavor by far. This is a good beer, maybe a little thin and straight forward to warrant a higher rating but certainly a solid drink.

Wow. This beer has such a strong aroma. Coffee with a hint of choclate. The flavor is so strong you want to look at the bottom of the glass for the grinds. The palate is unreal. This is a great brew.

bitter dark choclate and expresso yet creamy smooth oat. Intense but not dynamic. Lacks the soft edge of their Kentucky barrel aged stout. Very good but not living up to rating and my expecation for Founders.

darft at barleys in greenville. wow. that was my first impression. pours a very dark brown, nearly black, with a one inch cinnamon brown head that lasted through the whole pint. aroma is huge and simply amazing. scents of roasted coffee, dark expresso, cinnamon bun, maple syrup, walnut, and dark chocolate fliter from the glass. flavor is purely delicious. black coffee up front with dark malt, dark chocolate, smoke, and dark rum. silky smooth mouthfeel with nicely warming alcohol. simply a spectacular stout. **update** 2009 batch has finally made it to VA and this brew continues to amaze! big roast, big coffee, big chocolate, and a fresh element of dry, earthy hops come through. damn, i’m glad I can get this one regularly now!
