hombrepalo (745), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 30, 2008 Updated: Feb 24, 200912 oz bottle, biggest coffee flavored beer EVER! A black colored beer with a very nice tan colored head. The aroma is very dry and very roasted coffee. The taste is more roasted coffee beans.Kinda reminded me of a day old black. The alcohol comes through but really it’s just too coffee dominated for my liking. Expected more from this overhyped beer. REally did not think this beer was all that great, the bourboun stout on the other hand is well balanced and not over coffeed!
Re-Rate 02/20/09 5 months cellered. Mellowed out a bit. Taste much smoother, silkie. Enjoyed it a bit more jeffwilliams11 (310), hooterville, Michigan, USA Sep 28, 2008 pours like chocolate syrup with thin brownish head. very mellow flavor for over 8%. lots of coffee and chocolate, some caramel in the background. might be slightly too fizzy for an imperial stout... CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Sep 27, 2008 Updated: Feb 12, 2009Crushed with Jakebra. A slow sipper to be sure. Kicks ass in just about every way. Had a argument with Honkeybra about whether or not it was top 50. I was wrong. Lotsa coffee flavor, with lotsa beer. Aw yeah.
Re-rate. Was a little too drunk and tired to rate this one properly before, and she’s aged about 5 months since. Crushed with Jakebra. Rush of chocolate and coffee on the nose. Awesome. Flavor is more coffee with a big rush of bittering hops in the finish. A little thin-bodied. Not sure if it’s as good as Founder’s Imperial Stout, but even so, great brew. chicagodri (1021), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 27, 2008 I was so excited when I found this in the store today. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Nice aroma of coffee, chocolate, malt, and some oak. Seriously, when you drink it it seems like strong coffee. Amazing coffee flavor. You taste more chocolate as you get towards the end of the beer and it warms. Very good beer, so glad to finally try it. BigMilly8 (374), Holiday, Florida, USA Sep 27, 2008 From bottle : Pours very dark and very thick. Has a thin dark brown head that forms. Lots of coffee in the aroma, with some alcohol, and lots of roasted notes. Taste is much the same but it has some chocolate notes that arent in the smell. Very rich and yummy. Aftertaste is roasty. Palate is creamy and nice. A really enjoyable beer without a doubt. BeerBunker (607), Burbank, Illinois, USA Sep 27, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours black with a dark brown head. Aroma is coffee, lots and lots of strong coffee. There is also strong hints of chocolate, malts, and tobacco. Taste is immediately coffee, lots of coffee flavors. After the coffee taste subsides, you get the delicious flavors of chocolate, and roasted malts. Alcohol is not detected at all. Very creamy mouthfeel make it very easy to drink. Stellar. satan165 (541), River Grove, Illinois, USA Sep 27, 2008 Updated: Oct 12, 2008lots of strong stouts taste like coffee and chocolate. but drinking this is like enjoying the fictional candies from willy wonka’s chocolate factory, where very real flavors are executed from a pill (or in this case, a beer). this doesnt taste like coffee, it seems i was in fact DRINKING coffee. and i wasnt enjoying a flavor nuance related to cocoa nibs, i was EATING chocolate. the realism of these flavors was mindblowing. easy to see why this is #1. NaturalIce (115), originally from Michigan, New York, USA Sep 26, 2008 12 oz. bottle poured into glass; Pours out thick black chocolate with a dark french vanilla head. Aroma is of freshly ground chocolate coffee beans. This beer tastes exactly like chocolate-coffee oatmeal. This is one of my favorite beers so far. Highly recommended for coffee and stout drinkers alike!
