| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Oct 23, 2008 Dark black with a minimal brown head. Rich chocolate and roasted coffee are predominate on the nose. Nice roasted flavor at the beginning. Transitions into coffee and finishes pure bittersweet chocolate. The finish goes on and on like a wonderful gift from the beer gods. Beautiful beer. Rogueone (506), I F&ckin’ hate those guys from, Ohio, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 23, 2008 As Carl on the ATHF would say, ’’This is a Classic!!’’ Anyway. This is one of my favorites; if it’s on tap, I’m drinkin’ it until it’s gone. Pours a dark, dark black with about a centimeter of intimidating creamy tan head. Flavor is a complexity of dark chocolate, french press coffee, Kona coffee, and vanilla with the dryness of oatmeal. Velvety and full mouthfeel. Kudos if you can drink more than two and still function! Schultsc (486), Henderson, Nevada, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 22, 2008 Thanks cpferris for the trade. Thick viscosity, pure opaque black with a thin, fine, dark tan head. Nice roasted grain characteristics that aren’t over the top with coffee, soft spicy hops, and a slight lactic quality. The aroma suggests some malty sweetness but comes across dry overall. Not too much coffee or chocolate in the flavor--this is a good thing as it lets the elemental flavors of the roasted grain take center stage. The coffee and chocolate are supporting roles here, along with a finely balanced hop character. There is some acohol sweetness here that contributes a good bit to the flavor as well. The body is smooth with a nice oatmeal-influenced mouthfeel. I don’t know if there’s lactose in this beer or not--it certainly would fit in with the ’breakfast’ theme--and I’m a little disappointed that that characteristic is absent here. The alcohol flows through into a long, warm finish. This is a beer of great power and great finesse. It posesses enormous flavor and strength but is thoroughly drinkable as well. jampics (2), Twinsburg, Ohio, USA does not count | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 21, 2008 Delicious treat - pours dark black and smells like coffee and chocolate. Flavor takes it deep into coffee backed with some bitter roast at the end. A great beer! grandridge (222), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA
