Bigmmartin (366), Dayton, Ohio, USA Aug 31, 2008 Bottle. I’ve waited a long time for this beer to reappear at my local beer shop, so I had some high expectations. Well, I didn’t enjoy this beer as much I as had hoped. The aroma is straight up bitter coffee. And so is the flavor. Go ahead and brew a pot of black coffee. Let sit for 3 days. Drink. That’s Breakfast Stout for you. Very bitter black coffee taste with a hint of dark bitter chocolate, but mostly coffee beans. No I don’t love coffee, I like it, but don’t crave it. I can appreciate this beer for it’s complexity, which it is, but I still have trouble getting past the bitter coffee. 12many (231), Ohio, USA Aug 31, 2008 Bottle. Black with a small tan head. Straight up coffee aroma. Flavor is bitter coffee with a slight sweetness. Good mouthfeel, light carbonation, and long aftertaste. If you’re into drinking cold coffee this is for you. Nephilium (541), Ohio, USA Aug 30, 2008 Nice strong coffee aroma starts this beer off. Pours an opaque black, with just a sad ring of tan head. The flavor is where this really shines. Notes of coffee, roast, a bit of chocolate, and all with a nice full mouthfeel. About the only thing that hurts with this beer is the price for it, but it is a great stout, and I’ve tossed some in the cellar to see how it holds up. ChuxBeer23 (10), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA Aug 27, 2008 I love this beer and it delivers consistently. Ominously dark with a mild head retention of dark brown. Pleasantly aromatic with bold notes of kona that bitters the tongue.
Something that will fall into the very well crafted category as it is georgeous in appearance and elegant in delivery.
Awesome.
Capa (953), Yokosuka, Japan Aug 26, 2008 Black with a tan head. Strong molasses, coffee, cocoa, and roasted malts. Flavor is of lightly burnt coffee, chocolate, toffee, and some molasses. A little thinner than expected, still full, though. An excellent stout full of strong coffee. plovmand (1590), Helsinge, Denmark Aug 21, 2008 Bottle from trade with SQNfan - thanks mate!
A pitch black beer with a creamy foreverlasting mocca coloured head. Awesome! As soon as I open the bottle cocoa and coffee hits my nose. In the glass its doubled and its mixed with a pleasant roastiness. Awesome! In the mouth its creamy and smooth. Awesome! The flavour is not as in-your-face as you see with lots of american Impy stouts. The coffee is very dominating with chocolate and roasted malts at the side of it. A bitter espresso like finish ends this beauty of a beer. Awesomeness! Beerman6686 (1266), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 19, 2008 Poured a bleak black color with a light tan head. Aroma was of a lot of chocolate and coffee with smoke notes also. Flavor was consumed by the smokey/burnt coffe flavor and not much sweetness as I had expected. Not necisarily a bad thing, just not what the label describes very much. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Aug 18, 2008 Updated: Nov 27, 2008Bottle courtesy of iowaherkeye. Pours black with a dark tan head that dissipates rapidly. Aroma of coffee predominantly, followed by roasted malt, nuts, and rich sweet malt. Flavor of coffee roast, peanuts, some burnt malt. Solid body. Great beer (it didn’t awe me though). 8/4/7/4/16
Rerate 11/23/08: Growler. Pours black with a small tan head that fades rapidly. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, and roasted nuts. Flavor of sweet roasted malt and lots of coffee and nuts. Tasty and very drinkable for an imperial stout. Nice coffee presence. Lots of chocolate peanut butter. Yum!
