PhillyBeer2112 (2084), Orange Park, Florida, USA Jul 27, 2008 Thanks Santa! Awesome! Very dark brown, with a rich pleasing aroma of chocolate and coffee bean. Moderate roasty malts are in the background. In the mouth, these 3 components merge successfully into a single fine, rich flavor. Full bodied, velvety, like a dessert in many ways. Easily one of the best coffee stouts I’ve had. nbutler11 (729), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jul 23, 2008 Updated: Jan 16, 2009As advertised. Brimming with the flavors of oatmeal, cream, maple syrup, coffee, and dark chocolate. Pours like motor oil from the bottle with a trim amber/tan head. Boasts a hearty amoutn of hops as it warms. Wholesome and delicious. My all-time favorite label. badbeer (432), Iowa, USA Jul 5, 2008 2006 bottle, review is from when it was fresh. Pours out completely black with a dark tan head that retains well and leaves excellent lacing. Smell is predominantly of coffee with some light chocolate aromas coming through as well. Taste is of coffee and chocolate as well. Starts out more roasty, then leads to a bit of chocolate in the middle and ends up with a roasty finish. Very smooth on the tongue, full bodied, but not cloying, carbonation is just a bit on the higher side. Drinkability is awesome, I love this beer and will be thoroughly enjoying the rest of them. timsilvia32 (445), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Jul 5, 2008 Had this past winter when I went home to Grand Rapids. Could say it was worth the drive. Pours black with a thick brown head. Every flavor in great balance , roasty coffee, cocoa, oats. Pleasant lingering of these at the finish, but clean. Would never even guess it is a RIS style brew. twitcher (293), framingham, Massachusetts, USA Jul 3, 2008 bottle. Pours a thick, dark, and scary opaque black. A vigorous pour yields a surprising 1" of foamy dark brown head. Aromas of, like the brewer’s description, heavy dark coffee. Unsweetened coffee and cocoa. Flavors of awesomesauce. Heavy flavors of coffee, bittersweet bakers chocolate, roasted malts, and some chewy oats and grains. Dominated by coffee and cocoa. Surprisingly little booze flavors. Superbly drinkable and enjoyable for such a big and thick brew. Palate is stunning- thick, but smooth and clean finishing. A brew that easily lives up to the hype it gets. mar (1740), Rowlett, Texas, USA Jul 1, 2008 bottle thanks to iowaherkeye. black pour with a thin caramel head that dissipates fast. chocolate, coffee and burnt malts on the nose. nice thickness and a smooth coffee flavor that finishes very nicely. aoa56 (18), zeeland, Michigan, USA Jul 1, 2008 Pours opaque black with a tan head. Can taste the coffee with a slightly bitter chocolate aftertaste. Very good. airforce1 (61), Atascosa, Texas, USA Jun 24, 2008 A nice beer with a great label! Smeels like Coffe and Oatmeal, some hidden orange nuiuance abounds. This one met my expectations for sure!
