The beer pours an opaque black with a small medium brown head. The nose brings notes of coffee, unflavored oatmeal, burnt sugar, and a little bit of espresso. The palate is smooth and nicely full, thoroughly helped by a low but perceptible level of carbonation. The beer shows coffee/espresso up front, flowing into some roasted malt notes, an assertive level of bitterness, and the smooth texture lent to beers by the addition of oat flakes. I really like the idea of adding oats, as it mitigates the other notes, and helps to mask alcohol, of which there is just barely a trace in this example. The finish is long, a bit bitter, and roasty. Very well done. BillyM (149), St. Louis, Missouri, USA

Flavor is the same, but with some roasty bitterness at the end. Smooth mouthfeel. Good but not worth the hype. spiritsbeerman (47), Nicholasville, Kentucky, USA

A hard pour and still no head but still a nice lacing. 60 IBU’s must be at the front end, because it is such a smooth beer. The best stout or coffee stout I have ever had. If someone knows a better one hook me up. lithy (1650), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Aroma is roasted malts and coffee. A lot of flavor: coffee, chocolate, caramel, toasted malts, and oats. Mouthfeel is very creamy, low carbonation level, alcohol is masked well, and has a nice bitter finish. Fantastic brew. dand645 (90), Bayonne, New Jersey, USA
