Huge barley aroma. Roasted dark cocoa, old coffee grinds and a very light hop note. Dense rich body without being cloying. The flavor is pretty much a homogeneous coffee grind bitterness. There is a huge malt body to give it some underlying character; bitter dark chocolate syrup, and a long resiny coffee finish. A really well made Stout, but many of these highly rated coffee Stouts just don’t do it for me lately. downender (2615), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 9, 2009 Bottle. Almost black in colour, with a tight tan head. Massive black coffee aroma with a touch of bitter chocolate in the background. Flavour was also dominated by espresso coffee, with some charred malts, more chocolate and and a bitter, warming finish. A great stout for those who enjoy coffee. mabel (2612), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 11, 2005 Bottle: Real big and real nice roasted coffee and chocolate aromas. Pours a motor oil looking black with a dark tan head that last a minute or so. Okay lacing. Malty up front with chocolate that is quickly overtaken by a big roasted coffee finish. Chocolate flavors barely stay alive in the finish, just barely linger in the background. Moderate coffee aftertaste. Whoever mentioned that this is similar to an iced coffee drink hit the nail on the head. Great coffee flavors and not just bitter black coffee flavor. The more I drink this, the more I wish I would have picked up a four pack for myself instead of just a single for me and a 4-pack for wolhfs. Listed as the #1 stout on the site and deservedly so. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 10, 2007 Appearance: Pours a dark, oily black body with a full, mocha-colored head.
Smell: A pungent aroma overflowing with coffeebeans - some whole, some even ground for a drip machine. Attempting to peak through is some dry, dark bakers chocolate.
Taste: Semi-sweet chocolate maltiness soon yields to the more dominant coffee flavor which is much akin to a cold day-old cup of morning coffee. Some faint citrusy hops join the finish as it warms. Unfortunately, I find that the coffee character tramples unforgivingly over the other lesser flavors of chocolate, oatmeal, charred caramel and smoky cigars.
Mouthfeel: Full-bodied, with a sofy, velvety mouthfeel. Softly carbonated.
Drinkability: Ultimately, I prefer coffee stouts to allow the other softer undertones to shine through a bit more. 1FastSTi (2569), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA

Vanilla and molasses, light Tootsie Roll. Mild acidity with alcohol vapors, and a sour tang. Very nice. A glass of Stygian darkness with chocolately thin lacing head. Full oily body with medium carbonation, liquid velvet. Starts rich and chocolatey, with smoky toasted malt, vinuous acidity, molasses and coffee, burnt smoky acidity. Tootsie Rolls and vanilla. Leaves a nutty burnt bitter chalkyness on the tongue, with a bit of alcoholic warming and sweet creme de cafe finish. Light smoky coffee after with perfect balance of bitterness and lingering sweetness. This is a really nice impy stout. Bockyhorsey (2549), Mesa, Arizona, USA
