| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 26, 2007 Bottle. Lots of coffee, roast and chocolate in the nose, but the coffee is really exemplary. Easily the darkest black pour I’ve seen (through 926), not just opaque, but seemingly drawing and absorbing light from sources around it. Little, sticky dark brown head. Robust salty flavor, dark chocolate and roast and coffee. Really salty. Dryness increases to an almost unbearable level toward the end, and the brutally dry and roasty aftertaste is memorable to say the least. Full body also has light sour notes, but the mf is light with a creamy texture. Redefines the scale for coffee flavor in stouts; the minor flaws here are found in the body (not as full as it could be) and the aroma (not as intense as others in the style), but they’re really just little nits. Intense! BDR (2169), Roseville, Minnesota, USA

Huge aroma of strong espresso and expensive dark baker’s chocalate. DAMN this smells good. Deep black with a mocha colored pinky thick head. An enormous blast of coffee and choclate syrup are followed by a creamy smooth transition into a strong and firm hop bitterness. This is phenemonal. Silphium (2152), Haslett, Michigan, USA

Robust and potent, Breakfast Stout smells like a strong coffee and drinks like a strong coffee, with some chocolate notes. A very rich stout, worthy of breakfast, lunch, dinner, or anytime between. Growler, anyone?
Re-rate 30 July 2004. Picked up a growler of this beer recently and am increasing my rating. Simply put, there is no better coffee stout in existence. The 8.0% ABV is almost suggestive of an Imperial Stout, but this beer is all freshly-ground coffee. It is as if the brewers added barley malt and yeast to a pot of coffee, rather than adding coffee beans to the fermenting tank. Incredibly creamy with soft carbonation, never getting too acidic or "sharp" as coffee stouts are prone to doing. The best beer this brewer creates. zach8270 (2131), Henrietta, New York, USA
| 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Feb 12, 2006 Updated: Dec 21, 2008(bottle - 12 oz) Dark black pour with not much of a head, but what’s there is dark brown. Looks like used motor oil. Aroma is chock full of coffee, chocolate and oatmeal. So thick and inviting. The taste is out of this world. The coffee flavors envelope your tongue at the start and permit some of the chocolate and oatmeal sweetness to join in for a quick romp. Then it gently slides away into a wonderfully creamy finish with an aftertaste of chocolate and coffee. Feels like liquid velvet. It took nearly 800 beers to do it, but I finally found a beer worth of a perfect 5. I need to get more of this beer. jsquire (2123), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 16, 2005 This pours out of the bottle like motor oil and a brown head appears like paint on black velvet. The aroma in this beer was hypnotic. Chocolate, maple syrup, creasote, roast coffee beans, tabacco all wafted up at me from my snifter. It is worth this beer just to smell it. Very thick, creamy velvet smooth mouthfeel. This is definitly a coffee beer with nice chocolate notes and some caramel sweetness. The alcohol rides comfortably in the middle of this beer without being too prominent. Nice bitter finish of coffee and hops. Really a great sipping beer.
