| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 22, 2005 bottle. this pours a very thick black body with a very small mocha head formation. great aroma - I could sniff this for several hundred seconds. coffee is in full force along with rich decadent chocolate. starts out with coffee flavour and mellows out into a silky smooth chocolate explosion. bittersweet finish with an astringent lingering roastiness. very viscous texture and the alcohol warmness is welcoming. awesome. I vaguely remember trying this at RBSG, but my notes were very sparse as it was late in the night when I tried it - I think I prefer the bottle. SSSteve (2104), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 23, 2004 Updated: Dec 5, 2004Midnight black. Frothy bronze head. Fresh tar-coated coffee grounds in the nose, laden with dark chocolate, matchstick, and vanilla bean. Quite meaty, as well, with hints of damp soil and ashes. Silky, creamy mouthfeel. Slippery body. Subtle bready malt flavors trail the fresh coffee and soften the acidity. Subtle complexity abounds, midway, with flashes of charcoal, vanilla, and smoked wood. Traces of coconut milk lend more softness to the body as rich espresso absorbs the subtle acridness, as there’s very low hop and fruity ester presence to speak of. Coarse malts roughen the finish somewhat, topped with a tasty mesh of burnt espresso, chalk, and a lengthy burst of husky black malt. Long, albeit rather subtle, afterthoughts of vanilla and tar. While this is wonderfully coffeeish and charred, it could benefit from more rich caramel, hops, and/or esters, which would seemingly add more body and soften the sharp coffee and black malts. Still, very pleasing. PhillyBeer2112 (2089), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 27, 2008 Thanks Santa! Awesome! Very dark brown, with a rich pleasing aroma of chocolate and coffee bean. Moderate roasty malts are in the background. In the mouth, these 3 components merge successfully into a single fine, rich flavor. Full bodied, velvety, like a dessert in many ways. Easily one of the best coffee stouts I’ve had. radiomgb (2070), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 14, 2005 Tap. Near black in colour with a rich beige coloured lingering head, awesome lace. The aroma was of coffee, lots of chocolate malts, toffee sweetness, roasty and burnt toast. The flavour was of hot chocolate, coffee with a couple of creams, roasted malts and slightly sweet. Very dry mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes slightly sweet, lingering and dry. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 27, 2006 This has been aged for about nine months. I have previously done this and it got rid of most of the coffee flavors - no such luck this time, the evil flavor of coffee was present.... dammit. Pours thick oily black with a dark brown head. The aroma has lots of wretched coffee, dark chocolate and heavily roasted malt. Thick body with a fairly light amount of sharp carbonation on the finish. The taste is dominated by that beastly taste of coffee, lovely roasted malt, some sourness and cream. The finish has lots of disgusting coffee bitterness and light spice. Whilst I talk about coffee as something terrible (which to me all coffee tastes like it is from the bowels of hell) it does taste like it would be good coffee for someone who likes that sort of thing so I take no points away for that. This was good for what it is, but if Founder’s would make a straight strong double chocolate stout I would be very happy.
