Aroma is a ton of coffee, butterscotch, caramel, chocolate, with a hint of hazelnut. Body is black, no head forms. Taste is coffee, chocolate and caramel. Pretty good brew, but could use a thicker body. jeffc666 (1895), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Nov 29, 2004 Pours a huge thick oily mass with a dark tan, almost espresso crema head. The aroma just keeps the coffee analogy going; huge coffee, chocolate aroma. Simply stunning aroma. The flavor is equally huge, tons and tons of fresh coffee compliments the chococlate. Bitterness is pronounced and very nice combined with the coffee and chocolate flavors. The palate is thick and full with a moderately dry bitter finsih. An exceptional stout. Possible one of the best coffee/chocolate stouts I have ever had. Lots of times the coffee flavor can be off-putting but the way this one is put together it is incredibly enjoyable. marcus (1893), Sacramento, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 26, 2007 12oz bottle from Artusory. This dark brown ale poured with a thin dark tan head, eliciting a malt and alcohol aroma. There is a lot of chocolate and coffee in the flavor, with a spicy alcohol finish. One sip can be savored for quite a while, as the chocolate sticks to the palate. This could be a standalone meal - delicious. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA

Pours an oily black, as all Founders Imperial Stouts do. The head is really thin, tan, creamy. The aroma is strong coffee, sweet, chocolate, beautiful aroma, vanilla beans. The flavor is sweet, coffee, vanilla, light alcohol, chocolate, mild hops and a light waxy feel. Feels really smooth on the tongue and has a nice lasting sweet aftertaste. Founders has consistently impressed me with their dark beers. Beerdedone (1885), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA

Strong roasty aroma with coffee, chocolate and burnt malts. Rich roasted coffee flavor with light chocolate, dark roasted malts and some sweetness with a nice creamy mouthfeel and is full bodied and extremely well balanced with a long and dry finish. Huge Folgers instant coffee nose, huge brown head (how does John manage to preserve all of the freshness?). Really thick
and coffee-sludge-like, which is wonderful here at 0915 on a Saturday morning!!! Dry aftertaste is sweet and reminds me of powdered sugar. Coffee roastiness in the corners of my mouth. No acidity, alcohol, or chocolate notes, just kicked up coffeee goodness. This is awesome stuff!!! kappldav123 (1869), Markkleeberg, Germany
