Commercial Description:
You’ve got to love coffee to truly appreciate this phenomenal brew. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and sweetened imported chocolates, Sumatra and Kona coffee. We’re actually not sure if this is some type of coffee cake or a beer. Either way you can drink this ale with a fork. Breakfast Stout has an intense fresh roasted coffee nose toped with a cinnamon colored frothy head that seems to never fade and makes you wish breakfast could last forever.

Beer trade with nearbeer. Appearance: It pours a pitch black beer with no head at all. Aroma: Extremely strong with a huge amount of an excellent coffee blend which is accompanied by basil, (chili), sage and dark chocolate. Flavor and palate: Terribly complex. A huge amount of coffee appearing. Very low carbonation. Oats showing up. Smooth. Very long, deeply pleasant finish. Overall impression: A great beer. Wonderful. Thanks a lot nearbeer- I believe this to me one of the best Imperial Stouts I have ever had- I would love to try more beers from Founders!

Pours an oily black with just a very thing tan film of a head. Of course the coffee comes on strong in the nose but beyond that I pick up some notes of molasses. This is definitely not one of those sweet imp. stouts. Bitter black coffee dominates with a bit of black patent malt like taste and a lingering chocolate finish. Solid and bitter to the end. Just not mind blowing.

Dark brown body, tan head. Dry chocolate beans aroma. Bitter chocolate and molasses taste... good overall stout. Balanced sweet and acidity. (8 / 5 / 8 / 3 / 15) Rerate 5/16 - That last rating was at the end of a tasting. Maybe it was also cold. I resampled tonight, and I may have to get more. It is a very yummy and balanced concoction of chocolate, bourbony coffee, molasses, and oatmeal. I also like StewardofGondor’s cocoa puffs comment. This stuff is good, but needs to be at or close to room temperature. Otherwise, it just seems to be a relatively normal stout. But at room temp... yeah... this stuff is good. It isn’t as thick is the big impy’s, but its got a great balanced flavor that justifies its high top 50 standing.

Much thanks to my midwest main man, mreusch (Thanks, Matt!). A viscous, thick, soup of a pour, with a milk chocolate brown, enormously thick head. There’s not so much lacing left as the head dissippates, more like an opaque film on the glass. The nose is incredibly rich with coffee & chocolate influences. The flavor is more of the aroma, with a light touch of smoky maltiness, with a creamy mouthfeel, and a subtle bitter finish. I love great coffee and great beer, so this is a match made in Heaven! Excellent brew.

Draft at brewery. Pitch black colour, tan head. Aroma has lots of roasted malts and roasted coffee. Flavour of roasted malts, bitter coffee and chocolate. The roastiness is particulary nice.

opaque..ebony as can be. head is medium brown, very creamy. aroma is 1/2 coffee, 1/2 chocolate...sometime i think i pick up lactose notes..no vanilla though. flavor is dominated by the coffee with bittersweet chocolate playing a supporting role. alcohol basically undetectable. hoppiness and earthiness come through in the finish...really is a fantastic product. better than i expected.

Bottle at the Düsseldorf Gathering. Muddy, deep black body. Brown head. Pours like sirupe. Aroma of strong pure chocolate and strong coffee. Very nice and intense aroma. My girlfriend is addicted to chocolate, I think she’d like this beer - at least the aroma. Moderately bitter, lightly sweet flavour: strong malts with some complexity and all well balanced.

12 oz. bottle - thanks to TMC for the trade; pours smooth and thick black with a chocolate head quickly fading to the edges; smooth aromas of chocolate and coffee are very dominant, but not overpowering; body is slightly thin, but plenty of rich, creamy texture; flavors are mostly milk chocolate with some roasted nuts; lots of lacing and sweet & dry finish; roasted coffee flavors come out much more in the 1/2 half of the glass as it keeps getting better and better with each sip; so tasty
