Commercial Description:
You’ve got to love coffee to truly appreciate this phenomenal brew. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and sweetened imported chocolates, Sumatra and Kona coffee. We’re actually not sure if this is some type of coffee cake or a beer. Either way you can drink this ale with a fork. Breakfast Stout has an intense fresh roasted coffee nose toped with a cinnamon colored frothy head that seems to never fade and makes you wish breakfast could last forever.

Pours a think jet black color with the darkest brown poofy head I have ever seen. Smells like a cup of fresh roasted coffee. The mouthfeel is so soft and the finish has no alcoholic bite at all. This is like a cup of to dark coffee and chocolate. Taste is intense roasted with a lasting chocolately finish. It does not get much closer to perfect than this.

Black and oily appearance. Not realy thick, but I guess it does have the texture of left out black coffee. Nose was mostly vinous and chocolate. Really interesting blend of chocolate, roasted oats, and coffee flavors. I enjoyed how up front it gave a more sweet flavor but then in the finish the coffee flavors made them selves present. Dry finish.

Bottle. A coffee lover’s dream. Aroma was dominated by roasted cofeeealongside a good dose of dark chocalate. Poured pretty thick and it coated the mouth nicely, very velvety. Taste lingered for a while with its strong coffee and dark chocolate notes. I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on a few more of these.

Jimmack04 and Joeec5, great guys to shared brew with. Poured dark brown, black. Overwhelimg coffee aroma, like roasted coffee beans, with molasses as well. Taste was like a double esspreso. Full mouth feel and nice dry finish. Great.

Bottle, John’s Grocery, Iowa City, Iowa. Shiny black pour, dense and sticky fine tan bubbles. I have a friend whose 80+ grandma has smoked a pack a day since the 1940s, and who enjoys three generous bourbons every evening. I admire that kind of old lady. (My grandmas were much less adventurous in their tastes.) This beer smells like that grandma’s kitchen on a day she’s been baking. The smell of fresh brownies (recipe from a well-used red and white checked Betty Crocker cookbook) and a lot of the sort of coffee that comes in gallon tins, but a deep sense of smoke and whiskey still lingering in the walls. I like this. Less smoke in the flavor, though still present, intense melting dark chocolate and boozy green plums. Wonderfully full and soft palate. Lots of sturdy character here, if a bit less refined than some. Cheers Grandma.

My first week back from a medical leave and the bar has Breakfast Stout on draft. Boo-YAH! I missed the rush to try Founders imperial stout when it first came out. Man, I missed out. Full bodied stout that hits you with flavors of coffee, chocolate, and oats blended perfectly together. Drinkable, enjoyable and a masterpiece of a brew.

Bottle via trade. Pours black with a nice tan head. Real nice coffee aroma, along with roast and cocoa. Flavor is somewhat bitter with lots of coffee, roasted malt, oats, and chocolate. Palate is nice and full but not quite as creamy as something like Dark Lord or whatnot. Solid RIS though.

Pours absolutely black with a tan head. Aroma is dark chocolate, coffee. Almost smells like the inside of a coffee house. Flavor is the best cup of coffee you’ve ever had, dark chocolate, nutty, some oatmeal, some milk-sweetness. Been waiting on this for a while, and it was worth it. This is just intense, worth all the hype.
