Smoked malts and chocolate with bread-like oatmeal flavors. Rich with a burnt, bready finish. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 19, 2007 12oz bottle from hopscotch. Opaque black with brown syrupy head. Strong espresso aroma, light chocolate and roasted grain. Pine bitter flavor with slight alc. Full, creamy body, little carb but surprisingly doesn’t get syrupy. Fantastic, certainly a beer I’ll pick up next time I’m in MI. garthicus (1304), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Note: I’m having this at breakfast time. Appearance: Oil slick black with a rim of brown. Creamy brown head . Aroma: Delicious - coffee, chocolate, smoke, peat, some Christmas pudding notes, cream and vanilla. Flavour: Coffee, cinnamon, smoke, dark chocolate, peat, warming. Lots of creaminess in the mouth feel with a delicious cream and vanilla finish. Everything an Imp stout should be for me. Lovely. henrikb (1303), Aarhus, Denmark
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 6, 2006 Black body, dark brown edge, beautiful brown head, some laces; Big, deep and actually quite elegant nose: There is huge amounts of coffee, fruity red berried African and very ,very soft Latin American, behind it strong notes of cold powerful well made Italian espresso, it has a very small amount of milk chocolate and a big amount of dry high % Valrhona chocolate, dry oatmeal, lots of hard powerful English licorice as well, Balanced!; The body is full with a soft texture and a quit big amount of red berry fruity acidity, very, very little carbonation, a little bitter and a little salty, could be better balanced; It finishes long with a little salt, more bitterness and again quite a bit of fruity acidity (better balanced then in body) it has a quite soft texture that disappears a bit in the acidity, alcohol shows a bit, lots of aroma: English licorice is in charge, trailing bitter chocolate, warm Latin American coffee and unripe red berries - Great beer, thanks Walt! zathrus13 (1303), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 1, 2005 Pours black, with a tan/brown head. Aromas are coffee, espresso, coffee, chocolate, roasted malt. Did I mention coffee? Taste is much like the aroma, coffee dominates, with chocolate, roasted malts, and toasted nuts. I can understand why people wouldn’t like this, with the huge coffee presence. It is a bit too much, but this is still very a fun, interesting brew. I wonder how it would age? Thanks to flemdawg for this one. radagast83 (1302), Fairfax, Virginia, USA

| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jul 11, 2005 On Tap RBSG 2005: Dark brown head, subtly floats over bubbling opaque goodness that is about to erupt its fantastic flavour up through my sinuses. Hot damn, piquant BBQ sauce, cocoa, salsa, chillis, dark chocolate hot sauce in the nose. This is the most amazing nose I have ever experienced on a beer. Big coffee mouth with salsa, negro mole, fire pit, caramel and dark chocolate notes. The finish is somewhere between jalepenos cracking over a firepit and a spoon full of cocoa being dumped into a cup of strong coffee, all with a lingering bitter finish. Out of this world.

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 28, 2005 Pours opaque with well retained dark tan colored head. Aroma is very rich with heavily roasted coffee beans, and a bit of hops. Flavor is really rich and very expresso like with a delicous and judicous use of hops in the finish. Nice bit of dark choclate as well. Mouthfeel is thick and velvety without going overboard. As a coffee lover, this is almost perfect.
