| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 22, 2005 This bottled brew poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized mostly diminishing bubbles that left behind an opaque black colored body with no visible carbonation and a fair lacing. It had a chocolate malt nut brown malt raisin coffee aroma. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and finished with a strongly tingly hop end with a lingering mild coffee chocolate aftertaste. The flavor contained heavy malts hops and mild coffee chocolate nuts and roastiness. Theis (3760), Denmark

The blurb is right other then coffee bender this is the closest thing to a serious cup of joe. Better is loaded with roasty coffee, bitter and black, yet sweet with oats and chocolate. A very delicate balance and is truly incredible on draft and great out of the bottle. egajdzis (3629), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Dec 7, 2005 Updated: Sep 26, 2009Original Rating, December 7, 2005. Black color with no head. Lovely aroma of milk and coffee. The taste is spot on for breakfast: oats and barley with a milky finish and the ever present coffee. For me, everything just blended together in a magical brew. A great way to start your morning!
2008 Vintage, Tasted Fall of 2009. I had been hoping and kind of expecting this to age wonderfully. Black color with no head. Glorious aroma of milk, sugar, coffee, oats and a light earthy hop. See? Good call on aging it! Or... not. Light cardboardy malt and stale coffee taste. Thin bodied. Light roast. If I was going to score this one, it’d be 8/4/4/2/11, however I will leave this extra rating as a warning not to age this magnificent beer. Now excuse me while I go finish off this year’s stash. gunnfryd (3599), Kristiansand, Norway

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 1, 2005 Updated: Dec 14, 2006XBF05 draught. Very dark black pour, maybe hints of dark brown around the edges. Seemingly opaque, with a perfect light brown/ash colored head that sits lastingly above the beer. Aroma screams coffee. There is some very dark, heavily roasted malt, plenty of black malt and maybe some dry cocoa notes. . .but it’s mainly the coffee. Flavor begins with a roasty, oily, nutty coffee flavor. It’s very distinct and dominant. Incredibly authentic tasting and what I liked most was, with all of the coffee and dark roasted malts, this beer does not have the typical acidic/astringent notes that seem to come with this type of beer. The brewers did a very good job controlling the pH level, and that deserves a couple points in my book. Wonderful smooth mouthfeel that is unique and not easy to describe. It’s not quite creamy, per se, more like a smooth, almost chalky (but not in a bad way) texture. The beer just glides down the throat. Must be the oats! My biggest complaint was a lack of sweetness. I would like to see some more caramel and chocolate sweetness, to balance the dry coffee flavors. Full body though, with a low carbonation.
