Black as night and thick tan lace. Big notes of roasted coffee and chocolate, can’t pick up any oatmeal though through all the coffee. Huge lingering finish for minutes. But then pours a beautiful dark brown with a thick brown head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, oatmeal, vanilla and maple syrup. Various coffees and chocolates in the taste. Too hard for me to analyze. Palate rocks. This sweet stout is priced well and just wonderful detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA

Lots of flavor - roasted grain, bitter chocolate, bitter coffee, oak and a vodka warming presence. All of this balanced by a velvety smoothness (from the oatmeal, I guess). Burnt coffee and oak aftertaste linger. karst (1), Rolla, Missouri, USA does not count | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Feb 9, 2005 Since trying Schlafly’s coffe stout I have been in love with this sub style. I was told by Joe @ Corral liquers in Granite City, Ill. that Bells was surpassed by it.
Ladies and Gents this surpasses them all
a nice blend of flavors that at first seem harsh for the palate. By the third sip your
hooked as the combination of 25 IBU’s of hops, sweet high viscosity mouthfeel, perfect carbonation, undying aromas (I tasted from a sniffer) bond with your senses. I will still drink Schlaflys but this I will savor and crave for my next one cottonbrown (6), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA does not count | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Apr 21, 2005 12 oz. bottle. I tried this a while back when I first started getting into beer and hated it. Now that I have a few more beers under my belt I decided to give it another try, and I can’t get enough of it now. Nice thick pour with a light tan head. Aroma is of huge coffee witha little chocolate. Amazing body on this stuff, it seems to coat everything all the way down. Flavor again is insane amounts of coffee with tones of chocolate and finishes with a bit of espresso. I’m very glad I gave this one another shot. Glouglouburp (2877), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Black body topped by a long-lasting medium tan head. Roasted coffee beans, cacao, toasted bread, bitter black chocolate, floury choco-dessert. No fruity taste, floral hops or anything like that. Just pure “black stuff”. All the flavours you want from a stout, it’s all there with a slight focus on the roasted coffee beans taste with a dry floury cacao finish. This now sits on top of all the <insertprefix> Stout I ever had. I don’t know about the bottle (and to be honest I’m afraid to be disappointed) but the draught was simply perfect. The only thing wrong with it was its name, it’s some much more than that, it’s also a lunch stout, a dinner stout and a late night snack stout. plovmand (1730), Helsinge, Denmark

A pitch black beer with a creamy foreverlasting mocca coloured head. Awesome! As soon as I open the bottle cocoa and coffee hits my nose. In the glass its doubled and its mixed with a pleasant roastiness. Awesome! In the mouth its creamy and smooth. Awesome! The flavour is not as in-your-face as you see with lots of american Impy stouts. The coffee is very dominating with chocolate and roasted malts at the side of it. A bitter espresso like finish ends this beauty of a beer. Awesomeness! fbennett (293), Lowell, Massachusetts, USA

It pours onyx black leaving a creamy tan head that is sticky, and clings to the glass. The nose is fantastic roasted coffee beans, creamy vanilla under tones, and a warm inviting presence of alcohal. The taste on the palate is very nice, creamy, milky, it starts bitter, roasted espresso is very present. You can taste a toffee sweetness, also some bittersweet chocolate is infused in this brew, it then finishes syrup thick that coats the tongue. I love this brew it just solidifies my love for the American Stout.
