| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Mar 29, 2009 A: Pours an Obsidian black, darker than a moonless night. It pours with a huge thunderous head with tons of tiny bubbles that get foamy on top, like sea foam in the gulf on a warm September afternoon. The head dies down to a nice cap but some of the foaminess is left behind sticking to the top of my snifter.
S: Wonderful smelling stout. TONS of chocolate and fresh brewed coffee. There are hints of vanilla and perfectly roasted malt. This reminds me of my favorite cafe mocha which I happened to sip at a sidewalk café in Paris.
T: I really like great stouts and this is one of them. The flavors are off the scale. BAM in your face. Tons of rich creamy chocolate. Reminds me of the cocoa my grandmother (god rest her soul) used to prepare for me on a cold Indiana morning as a child. So chocolaty, sweet, and warming. All of that is then overtaken by a coffee taste as good if not better than the best espresso known to man.
M: Medium bodied and a creaminess that is off the scale.

This is the best beer (in my opinion) they have to offer. beerandIT (184), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 20/20 | Apr 13, 2009 Pours dark black with a brownish dark head. Beautiful coffee on the nose, chocolate, oatmeal and toffee. I could see having this for breakfast sometime. Full bodied. Nice and balanced if that is what you require from a big stout yes it is possible with this beer. Coffee on the front with the palate with really everything else in the nose tucked away in there. You also get oatmeal in the aftertaste as well. Wonderful stout and very highly recommended. bonk0076 (73), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 28, 2005 Pours opaque with well retained dark tan colored head. Aroma is very rich with heavily roasted coffee beans, and a bit of hops. Flavor is really rich and very expresso like with a delicous and judicous use of hops in the finish. Nice bit of dark choclate as well. Mouthfeel is thick and velvety without going overboard. As a coffee lover, this is almost perfect. Volgon (2489), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jan 8, 2007 Dusseldorf Gathering, Bottled. Sweet coffee and licorice aroma. Black color, brown head, good lace, pours like soysauce. Loads of coffee in the flavor, milky, roasted bitter, bit smoked, very full. Founders, please don’t age this on bourbon barrels! It’s much much better this way.
