Commercial Description:
You’ve got to love coffee to truly appreciate this phenomenal brew. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and sweetened imported chocolates, Sumatra and Kona coffee. We’re actually not sure if this is some type of coffee cake or a beer. Either way you can drink this ale with a fork. Breakfast Stout has an intense fresh roasted coffee nose toped with a cinnamon colored frothy head that seems to never fade and makes you wish breakfast could last forever.

Thick and opaque, very little head. Wonderful oatmeal mouthfeel. Bittersweet coffee flavor dominates the middle, finishing with some sweet dark chocolate. If stout met iced coffee, the result would be this beer. Heavy, heavy, heavy, took me nearly an hour to sip through this one. Sadly, unavailable in MA, so I can’t get any more too easily.

This dark java brew is excellent. The coffee aroma is very prominent. Yet, you can still taste the chocolate.

A Mes rate: Bottle at Chris_O’s HogTownHarry minifest.
Thanks again to Harry. Absolutely loved this one. I’m a real sucker for stout with coffee and this really hit the spot. Black and tan looks with a nice thick consistency. Lovely malts, amazing fresh hoppage and heavy heavy black coffee. Really amazing stuff. Perhaps a little straight down the line but the balance of flavour and that huge slew of coffee left me wanting so much more once I had drained my glass. Excellent.

Via trade with Pailhead. 12 oz bottle. Pitch black with a deep brown head. Nose is espresso and bitter chocolate. Big, beautiful bitter chocolate flavor, black coffee, sweet caramel/toffee. Lots going on here! Body actually seemed to thicken up as it warmed, to a satiny mouthfeel. Bitter, bitter chocolate finish. Simply awesome! Thanks Kevin!

From bottle for this rating, although sampled from the tap at Blind Pig, Champaign, IL, three weeks ago. (Little difference between the two, to my surprise.) This is one of my five favorite beers, and for $2.50 a bottle, one can’t go wrong. The combination of oats, coffee, molasses, and chocolate makes for a sensous experience. The viscosity of BS must be among the highest. Ah Founders, you’ve done so well here. Rerate with a one-year aged bottle. Scores have to come down here a bit, given I found it ages rather pourly. Turns into something like Peche Mortel, and if you see my rating of that, you’ll understand my meaning. Mostly flat and old coffee although still a great mouthfeel. Will lower the flavor by 1 point, the aroma by 1, and the overall by 2.

I was lucky enough to be able to try this. Coffee, coffee and did I mention coffee? This is one thick jet black treat. The coffee subsides with bittersweet chocolate with almost no alcohol taste. Leaves you licking your lips for the sweetness. If you can get this, this is one to try for a sweet stout!

Happy Birthday to Me! Thanks to "Antzman" for recommending this! Bottle pours very dark with a minimal light brown head. Has a chocolate coffee aroma and the coffee taste is suberb. I’m having it for breakfast right now! Very easy to drink!

Pours a deep brown, just one shade before black, with a brief espresso colored head. Nose is robust and appetizing with a roast front, shades of chocolate, and then full, bold coffee. Palate is silky smooth and richly thick. Flavor starts with chocolate and nut before the strong coffee and is rounded out by a bourbon character that continues the depth and richness. Impressive and powerful this is an excellent sweet stout that is not for the noncommital. Much recommended.
