The smell of it was like a flavored coffee - lots of coffee, chocolate and spice. Very nice taste to this beer - for a double the alcohol did not overwhelm but was just right and the chocolate, coffee, nuttiness and malt made this an almost perfect beer. The mouthfeel was nice and creamy. I drank one of my favorite porters by another brewer after this beer and realized how much that beer paled in comparison to this one - this is a winner and will be regular in my beer fridge. dagimp (139), Philly, Pennsylvania, USA

Pours with one finger of dark brown/gray head which dissipates very quickly. Aroma is all about coffee, maybe a little bit of chocolate but the coffee is where it’s at. Mouthfeel is very nice, thick and creamy. I’ve tried a taste of it on draft and it was even better. Taste is a mix of chocolate and coffee with an underlying tartness that’s common to most oatmeal stouts. All flavors blend together nicely and don’t leave an overly cloying aftertaste in the mouth. Alcohol is present but very subdued. An overall excellent beer. It’s on the pricey side but worth a taste. vtafro (477), , New Jersey, USA

Could definitely see myself drinking this in the morning instead off coffee if i had an awful hangover or wanted to start my day with a drink. Hopper (336), San Antonio, Texas, USA

The taste is the best damn coffee drink you will ever taste with alcohol in it that is unnoticeable. This is a coffee drinkers beer & a lot of people would be amazed by this beer that did not know it can get like this Extremely enjoyable. Lyncham (67), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 15, 2009 The beer is heavy with flavors of coffee, oat flakes, and cinnamon. The head is a reddish brown color. The hops bitterness and coffee bitterness blend and balance very well. The nose of the beer is the "best part of waking up...with a breakfast stout in your cup!" The aroma fills up your lungs with a strong alcohol/coffee/chocolate impression, in that order. The first sip explodes with complicated flavor. As the alcohol numbs your gums and tongue, the chocolate becomes apparent, and then the coffee. I’ve never tasted so much coffee or chocolate in a beer. It finishes bitter with a lasting presence. I had to wait about five minutes between sips it was so rich.
