Smell; lots of roasted coffee beans, chocolate and oatmeal. That coffee aroma really makes me think of morning time.
Taste; man, the coffee flavors really show up big time. I’m a coffee person, so this is a very good thing. The chocolate sneaks through some, as well as little bit of some dark fruits. There’s a touch of bitterness and alcohol in the finish. This is one beer that I might actually consider drinking for breakfast. Mouthfeel is full bodied, and very smooth, and oh so drinkable. bethmatt0421 (320), Covington, Kentucky, USA

Very much like the commercial description says. I get oats, coffee, and gourmet chocolates. I pickup more of the chocolates in the taste than the coffee, although it to is noticable. I love chocolate, and the darker the better, and it is the best player in this brew. The alcohol content is just right, not overpowering like in most stouts. I think those high alcohol contents are uncalled for most of the time and this beer didnt try covering up the flavor with it. An amazing beer, even better than expected. Well worth the $15 for a four pack. Funknmilla (604), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA

Looks amazing in my glass. Aroma is fresh ground coffee, toffee, chocolate, and roasted malts. Flavor is remarkable! Full of coffee and chocolate. The coffee makes it bitter while the chocolate sweetens it out. Done very nicely! This could easily be had for breakfast as a cold coffee drink from a nice coffee shop. This beer is amazing! One of the blackest stouts - a bitter, dense, malty flavor that is truly one of a kind (imho). I am in love with its taste, smell, appearance, and character. One of my favorite beers. foundmd (163), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

Huge notes of coffee in the nose and on the tongue from this motor-oil-black brew. Delicious chocolate undertones with a medium-thin, smooth mouthfeel. Fantastic. nolankowal (855), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Feb 12, 2006 Dirty motor oil black pour with a small dark tan...completely opaque. This is a sweet stout that drinks more like and imperial stout than anything else. Thick, chewy and full of flavor...this is a beer I would pair with dessert. The nose is full of roasted coffee beans, vanilla, and dark chocolate. The flavor is amazingly balanced...coffee, dark chocolate, caramel malts, and vanilla...nothing comes on too strong...though coffee seems dominant on the back through the finish...carmelized sugar at the very end. Creamy on the tounge, and rich throughout but not too heavy...this brew is as smooth as silk...amazing drinkability. GandGKevin (196), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
