Commercial Description:
You’ve got to love coffee to truly appreciate this phenomenal brew. Brewed with an abundance of flaked oats, bitter and sweetened imported chocolates, Sumatra and Kona coffee. We’re actually not sure if this is some type of coffee cake or a beer. Either way you can drink this ale with a fork. Breakfast Stout has an intense fresh roasted coffee nose toped with a cinnamon colored frothy head that seems to never fade and makes you wish breakfast could last forever.

2007 vintage. Pours pretty much pitch black with the faintest possible mahogany tint. A thick, foamy, coffee colored head displays excellent retention, lasting the entire drink and coating the glass in heavy sheets of lace. The aroma is big and chocolaty, with huge notes of coffee, mocha, heavy cream, and oatmeal. The flavor is equally huge and incredibly smooth. Mocha milkshake comes to mind. Chocolaty, roasty, sweet, and creamy pretty much sums this one up. The mouthfeel is full, silky, and not at all cloying. For some reason, I’m trying hard not to like this beer, but it isn’t working. I’m pleasantly surprised, especially after not being that impressed with the Kentucky version. Awesome brew.

Finally the infamous Breakfast stout touches my pallette. Made this my 60th rate (couldn’t wait for 100). The aroma was strong coffee. Poured thick black with a two colored light and dark brown head - Lacing sticks to the side of the glass - mouthfeel is thick and just the right amount of carbonation - taste is coffee roast with a slight bitter bite, chocolate and oatmeal. Very nice! The aftertaste is my favorite part of the imperial stouts and this did not let me down. Creamy taste lingered forever reminding me to take another sip. this brew is full of flavors and complexity that my pallette cannot yet comprehend. I would like to compare this to the Expedition Stout to see what I like better. Definately a great brew to keep on hand - can’t wait for the Bourbon Aged to come out!

Bottle. black with slight tan head. Aroma = Starbucks espresso. Creamy but bitter chocolate / coffee flavor. Definitely cannot tell this baby is 8+%. Great effort.

Bottle. I’ve waited a long time for this beer to reappear at my local beer shop, so I had some high expectations. Well, I didn’t enjoy this beer as much I as had hoped. The aroma is straight up bitter coffee. And so is the flavor. Go ahead and brew a pot of black coffee. Let sit for 3 days. Drink. That’s Breakfast Stout for you. Very bitter black coffee taste with a hint of dark bitter chocolate, but mostly coffee beans. No I don’t love coffee, I like it, but don’t crave it. I can appreciate this beer for it’s complexity, which it is, but I still have trouble getting past the bitter coffee.

Bottle. Black with a small tan head. Straight up coffee aroma. Flavor is bitter coffee with a slight sweetness. Good mouthfeel, light carbonation, and long aftertaste. If you’re into drinking cold coffee this is for you.

Nice strong coffee aroma starts this beer off. Pours an opaque black, with just a sad ring of tan head. The flavor is where this really shines. Notes of coffee, roast, a bit of chocolate, and all with a nice full mouthfeel. About the only thing that hurts with this beer is the price for it, but it is a great stout, and I’ve tossed some in the cellar to see how it holds up.
