Milkshake brown head with dark dark brown probably black body. Aroma is through the roof with sweet, burnt, caramel, coffee, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla. Flavor takes the KBS and 1 ups it in my opinion. Sweeter, but man it comes across nice. So smooth too. Just delicous.

Tap at Bavarian Lodge. Pour is jet black with smallish brown head as expected. Aromas are coffee, chocolate, brown sugar, hints of bourbon, and a light smokiness. Smell is a lot more subtle than KBS (which I had side-by-side), but this was served very cold. As it warmed, more sweetness cam therough. I do not think I would have identified it as maple syrup specifically if I did not know- more like molasses or brown sugar. Flavor is more subtle than expected: balanced sweetness, wood, cocoa, hints of vanilla , and a sweetish finish. Lighter mouthfeel and more subtle than KBS but still lovely.

Two goblets draft poured on tap at the brewpub (Grand Rapids, MI). Pours an inky black pour, opaque, in a snifter, with good brown fluffly head that laces well and sticks around. Aromas throw a lot of the base beer aromas, nice roasted malts, heavy coffee, bit of burnt or ashy smokiness, with decent oak vanilla notes and light maple syrup apparent. Initial is full bodied, similaries to KBS but a bit of underlying maple syrupy sweetness smooths out the finish very well. Flavors throw bitter roast, coffee, and dark malts up front, slipping into a silky feel with some good oak, vanilla, and maple syrup (light, but very much there). Lighter on booziness and ashy smoke, and a nice mellow sweetness easily distinguished as maple, which makes this more enjoyable for me personally. This is quite fantastic.

Two 10oz pints at Intl’ Tap House. Aroma is sweet char, chocolate, lots of sweetness... hints of smoke aside from the char. Taste is initially charred, some sugar, alcohol presence, more sugary sweetness, lots of maple sugar and alcohol with coffee/espresso roast. Wow. This is complex, well balanced, with a huge lingering mouthfeel. I was skeptical, but this is well-made and not overdone. Appearance is dense black with a molasses puff colored head that coats the glass. Extremely well-balanced and complex, if sweet. More than 2 glasses and I might get gout. Amazing.

On tap at Brixie’s, Brookfield, IL. Presented in a small 5 3/4 oz. stout glass. Poured black/brown with a thick, dark tan/light brown "milkshake top" lasting head, and some solid curtains of lacing. The aroma was smooth malt and creamy mocha. The flavor added to these some sweetness, maple notes and a subtle but warming alcohol. Full bodied and yummy!

michigan maple syrup steeped in oak barrels and aged close to a yr..tap at the brewery..pours black with small ochre head..huge sugar, chocolate and coffee aroma with hints of caramel and marshmallow..flavor is also abundant in such malts, with added touches of maple, toffee and cream....a tad too sweet, and borderline cloying if warmed too long...excellent, but inferior to the bfast and kbs

Had this on tap at Founder Fest 2009. This stuff was the shit. Poured an opaque dark brown, with brown head. The aroma was of maple syrup and chocolate, and the flavor followed suit. Superb brew from an amazing brewery, that really knows how to party! Cheers!
