On tap at Capones. Dark brown with some tan froth. Nose is chocolate, rum raisin and caramel with hints of maple. Body not quite full but still plenty creamy. A light tingle keeps it lively. Taste is caramel, mocha, a bit woody, with lovely veins of maple, vanilla and raisin. Finishes dry with mild hop bitterness. Yummy.

Draught at Capone’s. Pours jet black, mocha head. Sweet maple aroma with touch of coffee, oak and caramel. Very sweet up front, nice caramel-maple aftertaste lingers with a slightly dry coffee bitterness. Incredibly smooth and far too drinkable. Agree with previous rater: 9.4% ABV is COMPLETELY hidden. Not much could improve this.

Draught at Capone’s: Aroma of maple syrup, chocolate, slight roasting, and slight coffee. Poured black in color with a small, dense, light brown head, that diminished but lasted around the edges. Opaque. Flavor is medium to heavily sweet. Tastes of maple syrup, vanilla, light roasting, coffee, chocolate, and slight tar. Medium body. Slick, lightly dry texture. Soft carbonation. Sweet, maple syrup vanilla, coffee, and tar finish is dry. 9.4%ABV is completely hidden.

On tap at Capone’s in philly. Might have enjoyed this one more than the original and the KBS. Alcohol better hidden and lighter. Nose of cocoa and lots of wood. Thin front end, followed by a bourbon and cocoa blast, light alcohol burn, and the seltzery carbonation profile. Long finish.

Hand bottle, thanks Zac! Pours black, with a brown head. Aroma is coffee, roasted malt, caramel, and just the slightest bit of maple. Flavor is coffee, maple, roasted malt, caramel, and vanilla. Nice creamy body, smoother than the regular Breakfast Stout.

Pre Great-Taste party and again at Great Taste, 2009. Waited in line for about 45 minutes for this at Glass Nickel. My initial reaction was that this is not all that distinct from Kentucky Breakfast, although perhaps a bit more sweetness comes out here. I’m a fan of both Breakfast and Kentucky Breakfast, but I’m not sure this one is adding all that much to the lineup. It is very good, but one would need to try all three side by side to unravel the differences in flavor. Notes of chocolate, oat, coffee, vanilla, with a bourbon finish. Well done, but perhaps a bit gimmicky.

(Draught) Pours an opaque black body with a medium creamy tan head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, dark chocolate, vanilla, caramel and a hint of maple. Flavor of roasted malt, coffee, caramel, bourbon, chocolate, and some maple with a dry, bitter finish.
