Jun 28, 2009 Bottle at The Headkeeper. Pours a dark and hazy amber, average beige head, some lacing. Sweet malt, caramel and some subtle hop notes are noted in the aroma. The flavor profile is dominated by sweet malt, caramel, then touches of raisin, whiskey and/or bourbon and some subtle oak notes.

Jun 27, 2009 Updated: Jul 30, 2009Thanks to goryskewych for this 08 bottle. Yes, you’re going to think I am crazy for this rating, but this beer is a sucker punch of flavor. Amazing symphony of barrel and beer. Pours a hazy red-brown with a minimal white-ish head. Nose is brandy, spice, raisin, booze, toffee, ripe fruit, figs, plums, and all manner of goodness. Flavor gives chills... brandy, raisin, whiskey, overripe dark fruit, vanilla, and barrel. A mountain of sweetness, but not oversweet. This beer is like enjoying the company of an old friend. Medium-bodied and beautiful to look at and enjoy. Every sip brings remarks of "holy shit," but in a good way, not like Mbege. This beer lingers with malt sweetness before the flavor and beer are gone and I begin looking for another beer.

Jun 25, 2009 Hazy brown ruby pour with a big beige head. Spicy citrus and molasses aroma, also other ripe fruits are present. Smooth caramel texture with alcohol and sweet fruits, and a bitter roast finish. Great balance, very flavorful.

Jun 24, 2009 On tap at Brixie’s, Brookfield, IL. Served in a 10 oz. footed ale glass. Poured a clear, deep amber with an off white head and clingy lacing. The aroma combined some light grain with light sweetness to give off some vanilla and a wisp of banana. The flavor added some smooth malt, caramel, light sweetness and some warming alcohol. Nice fullness in the body with a tongue coating mouthfeel. Solid brew!

Jun 23, 2009 Pours a dark copper with a small tan head. Raisins, toffee, and vanilla on the nose. Dark brown sugar, raisins, port and alcohol. An excellent sipping beer and one I plan to cellar for a while to see how it developes. Founders does it again.

Jun 21, 2009 12oz bottle–pours an off white ring for a head and hazy copper color. Aroma is medium malt-toffee, dark fruit-cherry, boozy/wood. Taste is medium malt-toffee/brown sugar, dark fruit-cherry/raisin, boozy/wood, herbal/spice hops. Nicer as it warmed to cellar temp then room temp. occasional. Sipping.
