Commercial Description:
This Old Ale conjures up thoughts of classic sea fairing ports, there local pubs and the weathered fisherman that frequent them. In traditional style Curmudgeon is brewed with an intense focus on the malt bill creating a very strong, rich, malty characteristic and a sweetness indicative of its cousin the barleywine. We are especially proud of the balance in this beer making it deceptively smooth and drinkable at 9.8% alcohol by volume.
Editor’s Note - The 2006 bottled version has been aged in bourbon barrels.

Bottle. Pours a dark caramel color with a small white head. Aroma of caramel, dark fruit, vanilla, bourbon and some toffee. Flavor was very sweet with caramel, toffee, oaky bourbon, raisins and notes of dark fruit with a medium to full body and has a sweet warming finish. Excellent brew

Pours a deep amber/mahogany with very little head. Smelled like oak or bourbon aging malty goodness. Taste was the same with a surprising bitterness which I learned afterward was due to blending e.s.b. type beer and barleywine. Thick beer but very drinkable. Yum.

Caramel colored pour with a small white head. Sugary oak on the nose along with some whiskey. Slightly sticky on the palate. Flavor is very smooth with light oak notes along with molasses. Alcohol is very noticeable but not in a bad way.

Pours cloudy red with no head. Aroma of oak, hops, whiskey, brown sugar. Flavor of whiskey barrles, brown sugar and molasses, hint of hops and alcohol. Crisp, complex, tasty, and all-around satisfying. This is a monster, but a balanced monster.

Bottle shared with Gabe. Poured murky brown with small head. Malty, sweet aroma with a small hint of chocolate. Taste is similar to a barley wine. Not a bad brew.

Bottle shared by wolf. Muddy red in color, weak head. Sweet sugary malty aroma and nice touch of chocolate. Taste is sweet sugary malty and a touch of chocolate. Some dark fruits, figs and raisons. Even a bitterness in the end to help balances it out. Easy to drink for a higher alcohol percentage beer. Reminds me of a barleywine...Overall solid beer thanks wolfman for sharing! ***UPDATE***** Stfun hooked me up with a bottle. Pretty much think the same thing as before but a little more impressed. Nice sipping beer.
