| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 3, 2009 Bottle from De Molen beer shop. Clear russet, lasting dark beige. Some strong intense malt with some bourbon on the aroma. Better in mouth, the malts are strong and syrupy and some very good ESB style malts. Bourbon is present but not over the top or unbalanced. Some vanilla comes through. Alcohol is really well hidden with just some fullness. Hops on end are good, slightly bitter and hide any burn. Stupidly drinkable. Pretty decent beer, if not exactly the kind of thing that I would normally like.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 27, 2009 Pours a beautiful clear red with a light head and carbonation. Smells like Jack Daniels with oak notes. Obvious whisky notes with a dry finish. One of teh most interesting beers I’ve had - hard to believe it’s a beer and not a whisky! bierkoning (6031), La Tropica, Netherlands

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 24, 2009 Pours medium brown, with dark ruby tinting. Minimal head forms and quickly dissipates. Lacing is thick and fairly sticky.
Big malty sweetness. Slight buttery smell with a touch of vanilla. Somewhat bourbon or scotch like. Mild hints of dark fruits. Mild fusel alcohol.
Big malts dominate here, also. Sweet and rich. Dark bread notes. Raisins. Nice caramel notes. Alcohol presence cuts the sweetness and offers a very nice amount of balance.
Full flavored and not for the weak.
For those who like scotch ales, or just plain scotch whiskey, for that matter, this is highly recommended.
Thick, viscous and oily. This one definitely qualifies as ’chewey’. Yet still smooth.
Very low carbonation levels.
This one is a good example of why I like Old Ales so much. Also, why Founders is becoming one of my favorite breweries. So much of their line is just damn tasty.
I could drink alot of these.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 13/20 | Nov 23, 2009 Pours a brownish amber color, hazy, with a moderate head. Aroma is of hops, with citrus and fruity notes as well as molasses. Taste is very sweet - molasses and caramel, with a slight hint of pine. Fills the mouth with a full flavor. But offers a quick finish. beerbill (1948), Laurel, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 22, 2009 12 oz. bottle courtesy of tjthresh as a part of NP10V4. Pours a hazy dark rust with a thin linen white head that was gone after the first sip and left a few scattered patches of lace. Pleasant aroma of malt, caramel and a few vapors of alcohol. There is plenty of malt and caramel in the flavor, along with a bit of orange peel. The finish is a tad dry and a somewhat strong alcohol flavor emerges as well that lingers for several seconds beyond the swallow. The body lacks the fullness or depth that I associate with the style, especially since this beer reminded me more of a barley wine. A little disappointing, especially for a beer that I had on my wants list. Bontus (302), Waasmunster, Belgium
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 21, 2009 Pours copperish with a small head. Subtle hop nose. Grapefruit and honey aroma, then more malt. Some woodiness. Very well balanced and insanely drinkable. Just a bit dull MF. Nonetheless a real treat. tarheels86 (745), Washington DC, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 20, 2009 355 mL into snifter. Wow this looks good: a clear strawberry with a huge, thick, yellow head that has excellent retention and leaves lots of lacing. Aroma is earthy, caramel, maple syrup, rich creme brulee, peat, New York cheesecake. Smells like Imperial Stout a little bit. Flavor is like an easier to drink barleywine. There are sweet creme brulee and caramel notes backed by some serious spicy hops. Quick finish making you want more. The near 10% is completely hidden. This beer is insanely good.
