Bottle. Poured a dark amber color with a white head. Left plenty of lacing on the side of the glass. Aroma is sweetness. Caramel, toffee, and malts. Flavor is sweet, then tart. Very good, and very easy to drink even though a higher ABV. Great beer.

Dec 8, 2009 Pour amber brown with a small tan head. Aroma is caramel, roasted malts, and toffee. Flavor is full of caramel with hints of chocolate, vanilla and wood with some hints of bitterness as well. Pretty good.

Dec 6, 2009 A hazy light brown colored beer, with a small foamy beige head. The aroma of hops with some bitter. There is caramel and fruits. The taste of a lot of caramel with hops. There are hints of chocolate. It’s fruity with some spices. A little alcohol. The aftertaste is bitter with some sweet with spices.

Dec 3, 2009 Draft at brewery. Orange colour, small off-white head. Aroma of caramel malts, sweet fruits, vanilla. Flavour of sweet caramel malts, fruits, vanilla. Well flavourd. Medium bodied. Good stuff.

Dec 2, 2009 Bottle. Pours hazy ruby/orange color with no head. Rather malty aroma with something like mild hop. Full bodied with very little carbonation. Flavor is maybe a bit vanilla. It coats the mouth a bit. Medium dark dried fruits. Really smooth. Finishes really tasty.

Nov 27, 2009 Pours a beautiful clear red with a light head and carbonation. Smells like Jack Daniels with oak notes. Obvious whisky notes with a dry finish. One of teh most interesting beers I’ve had - hard to believe it’s a beer and not a whisky!

Nov 24, 2009 Bottle. Oarnge color. Tiny chunks of yeast floating. Malty, slightly alcoholic aroma with dried fruit, brandy notes and grass. Full bodied. Malty flavor with raisin. Alcoholic and stony with vinous notes. Grapes, perfumed . Red berries. Earthy hops.

Nov 24, 2009 Pours medium brown, with dark ruby tinting. Minimal head forms and quickly dissipates. Lacing is thick and fairly sticky.
Big malty sweetness. Slight buttery smell with a touch of vanilla. Somewhat bourbon or scotch like. Mild hints of dark fruits. Mild fusel alcohol.
Big malts dominate here, also. Sweet and rich. Dark bread notes. Raisins. Nice caramel notes. Alcohol presence cuts the sweetness and offers a very nice amount of balance.
Full flavored and not for the weak.
For those who like scotch ales, or just plain scotch whiskey, for that matter, this is highly recommended.
Thick, viscous and oily. This one definitely qualifies as ’chewey’. Yet still smooth.
Very low carbonation levels.
This one is a good example of why I like Old Ales so much. Also, why Founders is becoming one of my favorite breweries. So much of their line is just damn tasty.
I could drink alot of these.
