Thanks to Styles. Wow what a beer. Very surprised at this, for it was very thick and syrupy. Taste was strong malt and some spices. No head to speak of Almost a dark burgandy color. Very nice beer

I’ve had this bottle for a few months now. I didn’t know what to expect. I ordered it because it’s Founders, and it’s a beer Founders won’t do a lot of. But Spice/Herb/Vegetable? Not usually what I go for. The beer, though, doesn’t taste like a spiced or vegetable beer. It has rich caramel/sweet flavors to it. Strong ale/Grand Cru kind of sweetness. Very malty. High alcohol taste. It’s not as "different" as I expected, but it does taste like what usually passes for an anniversary ale, a kind of Batch (some number) that is a very strong ale. Nice.

22 oz bomber. Pours a dark, slightly hazy ruby amber with a creamy medium sized beige head. Aroma of sweet ginger, candied malts and spices. Taste is sweet with a strong ginger presence and hints of malt and spices. Not bad.

Got this on my whirlwind tour of Great Lakes breweries at the Founders Brewpub. It was served in a goblet which showed off it’s beautiful red body nicely. There was a bit of head around the edges, but not much to speak of really. The aroma was very spicy with a pronounced sweet maltiness behind the spice. I got an almost rye character but it might have been the hops. The flavor is pretty heavily malty but with a bunch of spice in it. The bittering from the hops compensates nicely and there is almost a belgian character to it. The flavor is pretty smooth for 13% ABV and medium bodied. Pretty good drinkability considering the strength.

NorCal December ’07 - The beer pours out a mahogany color, small white head with no lacing. First impressions on the nose is ginger and molasses. Futher swirls release some Belgianesque yeast esters and spiced plums. Flavors include notes of spices, sweet caramel, a touch of chocolate and dark berries. Nice beer.

Another nice founders brew. Soft and creany. Smooth and rich. Nice aroma of dark fruits and moasses with some chocolate. Taste is similar, very well balance with that hint of light bitterness to go with the sweetness.

22oz bottle. Poured a deeper amberish color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of spices, minty, caramel, and some dark fruits. Tastes of the same mintiness, dark fruits, spices and caramel. Alcohol burn in the finish.

22 ounce bottle from BBB63. Served in my Boulevard Smokestack Series goblet.
The color is dark garnet. Little visible carbonation. Zero head.
I think I smell spruce. Wintergreen Skoal. A touch of chocolate reminds me of Junior Mints.
Really kind of tastes the same as it smells. I caught a bit of raisin there. Imagine sitting at the movies. You buy a box of Junior Mints and a box of Raisinetts. You are hungry, so you open both boxes and dump them in you mouth at the same time. That’s what it tastes like.
Fuller body. Lighter carbonation. Sweet finish.
Well, its certainly and interesting beer. Not a real fan of spiced beers. Deca really has some of its good points though. Thanks Mike.
